Raising Backyard Ducks: A Guide to Duck Keeping

Ducks can be cute to watch
I learned that it's fun to watch a duck waddle around. Beyond that the book is only written to get someone interested in having ducks, not specifically what you need to know and do to actually have them. I already knew that I want them. Now I have to pick out another book.

A good basic guide for Ducklings
I enjoyed this short read very much. Although we live in very different climates ( I'm in THE humid and extemely warm VIRGINIA BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS) so much of this was simple to understand and helped me with my research for my own small hatchlings that will be arriving in a few weeks.

The width of a paper napkin doubled over.
You will be buying sixteen pages, figuring front and back a total of thirty-two with three blank, three just half a paragraph. I would not value the book as high as 2.50$.Join a good online community and read the comments. You will see pictures, read important information, and occasionally find a really educational link. Something this beginner book fails triumphantly on.

Very informative
I thought it was very interesting and helped answer questions I had concerning the run and nesting boxes, ect. Would have liked a little bit more about the types.

Short read
I was hoping for way more information, such as information I can't easily get off of the internet. But I did appreciate some of the shared personal experiences.

Extremely Practical!
If you ever think you want to raise ducks, this is the book for you! It walks you through the steps to get started in your journey, and build your flock. Real-life experiences from the author are genuine and make it easy to understand how to have a healthy group of ducks.

Extremely basic
I read this book in about 10 minutes. It's very short and doesn't cover the topic in much detail. It might be an approachable primer for the absolute beginner, or for the partner of someone who wanted to introduce ducks to the household, but to actually raise a flock successfully you'll need a lot more information. It covers basics about housing, acquiring ducks and feeding (from a USA perspective). It does not cover handling, checking potential buys for health, spotting illness in the flock and a number of other issues that are important to a poultry keeper. It mentions keeping ducks and chickens together, but does not cover many of the key differences in husbandry that are essential for both species to cope in this kind of setup. The author reports having 3 years experience poultry keeping and owns 4 ducks. I'm not convinced this is enough. The book is sweet and well-meaning, but it's not the reference I was hoping for.

Very Small book
This is a delightful little book , only a few pages but does have just enough basic information you need for keeping ducks.

Good read for total novices in raising ducks
A good and informative read but could do with more details. It may be sufficient for total novices in raising poultry.
