Trinity College London is an institution of higher education in London, England, United Kingdom. Founded in 1546, Trinity is one of the seven members of the original Cambridge group of colleges, which also includes King's College, St John's College, and Corpus Christi College. Trinity is the third-oldest college of the University of Cambridge after Peterhouse and Magdalene. It has 245 staff members serving over 4,900 students (of which 78% are undergraduate) from over 140 different countries. The college is situated on a 2.5-acre (0.98 ha) site in central Cambridge near the northwest corner of Trinity Street and Trumpington Street. Trinity’s photography art program was founded by David Mellor in 1992, with the goal to create a vibrant community that would produce strong photographs that would be exhibited at galleries throughout London and internationally. It has since become one of the most established art programs in England, with students taking part in exhibitions at some of the world’s most prestigious photography institutions including George Eastman House, The International Center of Photography, National Gallery of Victoria, Royal Photographic Society, and Tate Britain. The photography program has an international reputation for its high quality graduates with recent alumni being employed by leading galleries including Photo LA, Photo ICA Sofia, Photo Festival Brussels, London International Photographic Centre, Photoworks London, Salzburg Foto Museum and many more. Trinity's music program was founded in 2008 by Professor Jonathan Lippman with the goal of commissioning new works by composers active in contemporary music. It has since become one of the most established music programs in England with students taking part in commissions for ensembles such as BBC Symphony Orchestra and The Ensemble Modern at festivals all over world including Astana International Music Festival in Kazakhstan and Festival Musica Nova Montreal Canada. Music alumni have gone on to work with prominent composers including Nico Muhly, Gavin Bryars, Custer LaRue Anderson Jr., Cesar Franck, Alfred Tomatis and many more. The art photography music program at Trinity College London boasts over 40 years worth of history as one of the most well-known photography programs in England as well as a long history as an internationally well-known photography program among universities worldwide.
