13 FISHING - Descent - Inline Ice Fishing Reels

Pretty good reel with one caveat
These reels are smooth and feel good in the hand. I bought several of these to put on my ice rods. They are a great addition to my arsenal. I have one caveat to this that is a little bit of a drawback. If you palm the reel while ice fishing the heat from your hand combined with the cold outdoors creates some condensation in the reel. On a couple of occasions I have had this condensation freeze inside the reel. This makes the anti-reverse stop working and the reel will free-spool. When this happens I put the rod in the roof of my shanty to warm up and the condensation clears within a short time.

Poor drag by design; works OK for small trout/panfish
These inline reels have a long way to go before serious fisherman start using them. The handle and cranking gears seem smooth enough for the price point and the idea of the inline reel has its merits for many applications and species of fish. The 2.7:1 gear ration is acceptable for bringing in big fish but you do run the risk of slack line if you can't keep up with a fish turning direction and swimming towards you. I had a 34" Lake Trout and several smaller ones do this. Normally my spinning reels help me keep up but I was not able to keep up on the inline reel. Where this particular reel (and nearly all brands/models on the market) fail is in the drag system. The drag is terrible. Just awful. Super jumpy and the star drag may auto-loosen when set at moderate or light drag levels. Use your money on a cheap spinning reel.

Nice Reel - Not For Me
I tried to like this reel. I was never able to find my groove and just fish with it. It's just not for me.That being said... There is nothing wrong with this reel. It's me and what I'm used to. I let a couple of my friends try it. One of them was able to use it without any problems. I let him have it. He uses it often. That's why it still gets five stars.

Amazon sold this as damaged packaging
I ordered an open box of this reel. It said works same as new, Amazon renewed. What happened is someone bought it, broke it, sent it back, Amazon just put a sticker on it, and sent it back out as used in excellent condition. If you're gonna offer something used with damaged packaging, it should ACTUALLY BE TESTED! now I have to send it back, go to ups store, wait for refund, then order another. So ridiculous by Amazon. The reel itself seems of relatively decent quality, but the spool doesn't turn, as it looks like someone broke it, tried to take it apart to fix, and now there's loose screws rattling around inside.

Not a bad reel
I like the reel, for the price it feels a tad bit chintzy. Works well, I'm new to the in-line concept for a reel, but all in all I thinks a good product. Left hand reel means that's the had you reel with....FYI

Decent reel for the money
I’ve used this reel for two days now and it’s a nice reel. Only thing I don’t like is that you can really adjust the fall rate. I try adjusting it and it falls the same no matter what. Other than that, it’s a decent reel and I’d prob buy again if I’m in the market for one.

Drag leaves a bit to be desired.
Reel is nice, all of the functions seem to work. Only gripe is that the drag doesn't seem to hold very good. I have this set up on a pan fish ultra light rod so it isn't the end of the world but I am able to set the drag as tight as the wheel will let me and still pull out 3lb test fluorocarbon line.

Good deal
Great reel for the price, really like the front psh trigger that you can either hold or it locks open. Silky smooth retrieval and dragTrigger, depending on how you hold your rod, it's a little far too reach. If they would release a trigger with a little more angle bringing it closer to center I would happily give this reel 5 stars

Sweet reel
This is my first inline reel, and I’m lovin it🤙🏻I only ever use spinning reels all year round, but for ice fishing season this year I thought I’d switch it up.I love the free fall release on this reelAnd I also love how straight the line comes off the reel, no more watching fishing line coils going down my hole👍🏻I highly recommend an inline reel for ice fishing. The descent and eagle claw are both good inexpensive reels, I’m a right handed and love that 13 fishing made a right handed model at this price point🤟🏻Enough reviewing, I’m heading out to catch me some fish😁

Finicky design seems poorly thought out
I bought a pair of inline reels, one has the lever and this one has the push button. The advantage of the push-button is that in deep water you can just push the button and then fuss with something else while your line slowly spools out, so it is hands free. But that's pretty much where the good stops. The reel itself has a bunch of bumps all around the edge which, I think, are meant to act as guards or something, or maybe they are meant to just look stylish. But in reality, the line constantly gets caught on them, especially when it is wet and cold. The lubrication doesn't seem to be cold weather rated either, so the super-smooth action of the reel gets you excited in the comfort of your home... but quickly fades when you actually hit the ice and find out that line has to be pulled off the reel by hand (even with the friction dial set to minimum).Overall, seems like i wasted my money (despite catching a pair of nice lake trout with it).

Good quality inline ice reel.
Good quality reel. Tried it on open water just to see how it works. Make sure the bezel cap screw is tight around the spool release button. Mine was loose and the whole spool and bezel fell out onto the boat deck luckily. Was easy to put back together. 4 stars because of the loose bezel cap screw. Should have been caught by quality control. Looking forward to using it on the hard water.

Not smooth
I tested my friend’s Black Betty Freefall and I was amazed by it’s smooth trigger. It fell fast and conveniently down the hole with only 1 micro hook on the line. I cant afford the Black Betty so I invested on this one (Descent)… definitely not as smooth as the Black Betty. Most of the reel is made out of plastic, which explain the cheap price. The reel isn’t smooth at all, keeps kicking each turn. And I need to add a small sinker to make it fall “smoothly”. I dont know if I got a faulty reel but I think it made me give up on trying a in-line reel.

They are ok but not the best
I have a lot of ice fishing rods and reels upwards of 20 combos. I have two of thees reels that I ordered of Amazon this year. The drag is the issue on both of the reels, for fish 1 - 3 lbs it works ok but after that it really starts to go down hill fast. Maybe I was just unlucky and got two from a bad batch, And this review is my opinion compared to other reels in the price point :) Good luck on the Big pond
