Great dog house
Light but sturdy. Nice materials, easy to build. Has lasted quite a while now and has held up to the elements extremely well. Looks fairly new, even though it no longer is. Nice price for the quality.

Great house for a small cat or dog.
This is a great little dog house for the price. It was so easy to assemble. I have a cat who soils the floors and carpet if left in the house, so I needed a warm place for him to sleep during the cold winters. Before I put the house together, I added insulation to the inside of the panels and roof for warmth. I also cut out a piece of clear shower curtain as a door to keep out the cold air, and placed a piece of carpet padding and plush carpet on the floor. With the added insulation, door, carpet and a small down throw, this house stays toasty warm during the cold nights in the Northeast. My outdoor cat loves his new home.My neighbors commented how cute this house looks on my porch. The only negative about this product is that it smells to high heaven of varnish when you first take it out of the box, but after a day outside it lost the nasty varnish smell. Also one of the bolts was damaged, but I just bought a new bolt for 39 cents at the local Ace Hardware store. The small house for a cat or small dog is perfect, but I'm not sure how the larger house would hold up for a large dog, as the wood on the floor is very thin, don't know if it would hold the weight of a heavier large dog.

Decent shelter
I bought this to provide safety and shelter for an outdoor cat we've adopted. It came without assembly instructions, but went together pretty easily. Some of the pieces were chipped and had suffered in shipping, but it got here quickly. The wood is thin (approx 3/8" thick) and the somewhat flimsy construction is not going to hold up to a bear attack. Fortunately, we don't see many of those in my neighborhood. This will do what I bought it for, and for the price, I'm satisfied.

Looks nice. Good size
Good value for money. The wood doesn't look like it'll last for years (probably laminate of some sort) but it is sturdy. Easy to assemble - but be careful that the screws will chip off the nearby wood easily.

Smells! Color not like description!
Doesn't look like the picture. I got a red little barn house. It is supposed to be a lighter wood. It also smells horrible! My cats smelled it and ran. The smell is so strong it makes my eyes water. Vortex should stain the wood with polyurethane to avoid the cedar smell. No I have to return it.

Product looks good. Assembly was a pain.
It was easy to put together, except for the roof, which did not have the holes for the screws. We had to make the holes and ended up splintering the wood. Poor quality control, but you get what you pay for.

Fantastic Little House!!
This house is fantastic. I purchased the small size, 20x15 floor, but what I received seems to run a little big, 22x18 floor. And it turned out to be the perfect size. The construction of the 9 sections is excellant. It can be put together with a minimum of building knowledge, just a phillips screwdriver and a pair of pliers, the enclosed instructions are idiot proof. Took me all of 30 minutes. An added bonus is the floor can be moved aside if more access is needed. One suggestion, when it arrives, unpack the sections and let the pieces air out. The intitial chemical smell was a bit overpowering, but by the next day it was all but gone. I would reccomend this product to anyone.

It smells
I've had this house outside now for about 3 months and the odor from the stain is still noticeable. The cat I got it for refused to go in it because of the odor and another stray took it over. I had some trouble putting the roof on as the directions are basically terrible. There are some gaps that wind can come through -- though, not rain unless you live in a monsoon zone. Other have suggested using spray foam or the like to fill those gaps and it would probably be a good idea. I had to use some wood putty to fix cracks that developed in the roof while putting it together. It looks nice, but it'd be nicer if it was assembled better and didn't stink. Hopefully, some other company will create a better version wood house soon. If you're looking for a simple to assemble house, just get one of the plastic ones. If you want a wood house and enjoy building things, really, you could probably find free plans for one online and buy the lumber and put it together yourself for about the same price and without the wind gaps and the stink. So...I don't know; at least the ill tempered feral cat who claimed ownership of it didn't catch pneumonia over the winter because of it.
