Women's Prairie Lady Costume

This is a beautiful dress! The neck is high and covered in lace and the dress comes in one size. Although this may sound like a problem, the white belt that goes around it makes it adjustable to any figure. The dress also comes with the hat, at least in my case. However, in the picture the hat appears to be just a fancy hat, but in real life it is a bonnet with long lace at the bottom to tie it under your chin. The dress is excellent quality and can be washed in the washing machine, but must be line-dried. The dress has an underskirt/petticoat attached in the dress to keep its shape and is also very comfortable.

I'm very pleased with the dress - I'm short & stout & busty and with the help of the stretchy material on the back, I was able to wear the dress comfortably. It was too long for me so I cut off 4 inches off and re-hemmed it... which was much easier than making the entire dress. The dress is well-made and the price was reasonable. I washed & dried it on permanent press selection and it came out without a wrinkle. The picture on my computer looked like the dress was a purple shade, but it's actually gray which I like better than purple. The dress now hangs in our local historical society for our next 19th century dress-up day. I got a lot of compliments on the dress during our Community Fun Day.

The dress is a nice look and the belt makes it fit well. I ironed it on the wrong side as it was very wrinkled. The dress had a seam open in one of the sleeves, where they missed the material when it was sown, but it was an easy fix on my machine. However, it makes me wonder about their quality control of products. The hat is a little floppy, but it work with the costume. Overall, it will service my purposes.

The dress looks great, but is extremely itchy. You definitely need to wear a full slip or other undergarments that cover the whole body. The bonnet sunk in the front middle and since it is a soft material, there is nothing to hold the bonnet's shape. It just flops down making it look sloppy.

If you are a size 20, this maybe to snug for you. It stretches really well and it fits my daughter perfect. But, don't have the misconception that the belt is attached to the outfit and that it is a wrap around. IT is not! It has a zipper in the back and the give in the material is the only way it accommodates a larger size. I would guess that it will fit up to a size 18 comfortably. It does look the way it does in the picture and it is a good quality. My daughter loves it and will be wearing it in a Musical performance from the "Newsies".

I found that this is a well made costume. Fits as described . I've received compliments on it , as I volunteer the month of October and needed a prairie costume. Of you are short, I am 5'2, you will need a small heel to bring it off the floor enough to walk without tripping.

The dress arrived very wrinkled. I have tried to get out the wrinkles without success. The dress looks gray/blue; however it actually arrived an ugly olive color. The hat is flimsy and just flops on my head. The slip underneath the dress is very scratchy and I am tempted to cut it out. I do not recommend this dress.

First dress I received had a broken zipper, so I exchanged. Second dress also had the same broken zipper, AND little "runs" (like in pantyhose) at the waist line. Cheaply made.If you need a one-shot costume, this might work for you. It is stretchy, so it probably would fit S, M, L, XL. Just double check that zipper before you walk out the door!
