Appearance was good and if it had worked would be a great value!!!Wasn't compatible for what I needed and went to an OOMA!

I think it would be good to remember that you are just buying a technology and not necessarily a phone service. If you are comfortable solving your own minor problems either through internet searches or their chat room, then you should be okay. Their advertising claims held true for me. Sound Quality: I went into it with low expectations, but I was impressed that it was about 90% of my normal landline quality (just a lower volume). Vanity Number: After trying eight different ways to get a vanity number, I gave up trying to be vain and settled for porting my number instead. Porting a Number: Magicjack did it professionally, simple and quick, within a couple of days. The nightmare was with AT&T DSL. They have to disconnect your account and have you reactivate it for DSL only. I tried to be proactive, notifying them that I was about to port my number and that I wanted to keep DSL, but they still couldn't succesfully transition the situation and disconnected my service anyway. Even the AT&T agent couldn't figure out what they did, and told me to wait for the first bill to sort it all out. (The soothing sound of all the coins that I won't be paying to AT&T in the future kept me calm.) Chat Room: My question was answered within 10 minutes by a Magicjack agent. The response was basically a quote from a manual, but it put me on the right path to solving my problem. (The problem was that I couldn't make calls to certain friends and businesses probably because their phones were blocking my Magicjack issued number, thinking that it was a telemarketer.) The Company: They are listed on the NASDAQ, and a quick search on Yahoo Finance showed that they are a smaller company, have no debt, and that they cancelled a new stock offering due to the success of MJ+ sales. I interpret that as a company that will improve customer service as their revenue increases. The new website is much more professional looking than the infomercial-quality old one. Others' Problems: I was suprised to see the negative reviews for this product. My guess is that with all the portable phone systems and DSL companies out there, there will always be some compatability issues. If you have a friend who has it, you can test it out on your phone first before you buy it. My Estimated Annual Savings: $240 Good Luck!

It took longer than I expected to have Amazon deliver. Magic Jack Plus is better than the regular Magic Jack. Maybe because it goes in the router and not the computer but call sound is great. People couldn't tell I was not on my landline. I already had a MJ and this one would replace it. I tested it for nearly 2 weeks and it always had a dial tone and always rang when I called it anytime of the day or night. I was testing it before having my home land line phone ported over. Porting was easy, you go to your MJP account and give the number to be ported and it is checked to see if it can be ported...mine was an ATT number. Then you have to pay the $20 before they will start the port process. MJP said it would take up to 10 business days ..well mine was ported in one business day. They recommend you check with your carrier to make sure your account with previous carrier is cancelled. So I did. I had internet with ATT also so I got Charter cable before all this and I'm saving $40 a month and have at least 5 times the speed over ATT with home phone. It's been over a week since the phone porting but I'm satisfied I made the right choice. Note that for renewal you have to pay an extra $10 to keep your ported number. Hmm but now MJ has taken it upon itself to assume I will renew my old MJ by sending me an einvoice that I'm guessing they think they will charge my CC. I don't appreciate that as I did not renew the old MJ...why would I with the MJP. If they charge the CC I will have the charge removed as I did not authorize it. I guess that will be another story. UPDATE Sept. 2013 I've had the Magic Jack Plus working for over a year now. It replaced my old ATT service. My MJ bill is now right around $40 for THE YEAR! This includes the $10 annual fee to have my old number ported. BEST thing I ever did. MJP runs off your router and just plug the out line into your phone jack (I would unplug the inline from outside first) and all jacks work. I updated the phones to a Panasonic TG-KX7621 system with 3 handsets. This system has bluetooth so cell phones will ring through it and with the contact lists from the cell phones passed over to the Panasonic system, you have personalized caller ID. Occasionally the MJP will drop a call but that is usually because a computer is up with too many windows open. Also, call time is usually limited to 90 minutes then the call is dropped and you just have to call the person again but I have seen the minutes last longer. It is because the MJP thinks the phone is off the hook. Overall this has been the best thing and my goal was to beat the phone company (ATT). I was sick and tired of paying all the extra taxes with ATT that was nearly half the bill and with the MJP I basically get the same thing and FREE LONG DISTANCE. It is truly a win and I can't say enough good things about the MJP.

This is my first Plus model and since I have used the old one with no problems, I decided to save money and signed up for the 5 yr plan. My device went dead in the 13th month. I had previous problems of losing the connection and was able to restore it by unplugging it from the router and plugging it in again, so I decided to buy an expensive Tripp-Lite strip extention cord with lots of surge protection. Within a month it died! I assumed it was not covered by any warranty, so bought a new device assuming that everything was registered under the phone number. It is not. Everything is registered under the device. Look out. I got a notice that I had to renew my custom phone# (has to be renewed every year or you lose it!) When I went online to renew it, I saw two different devices registered under the same phone#. The dead device showed the 5 yr subscription. The new device showed only one year (which is included in the basic purchase price). I was forced to call customer service. I thought it would be a routine thing to have them transfer the subscription to the new device. Sounds simple, but it wasn't. Impossible to get through to a live customer service rep - had to do a google search to find how to contact them via phone and then decided to follow the suggestions to use live chat instead. I was on the stupid chat line for 2 hours until I lost the connection and wasn't going to start all over. Until I proved to them that the device was actually DEAD, they were NOT going to honor my 5 yr pre-paid subscription. I had to plug it in to different USB ports, wait for a downloaded upgrade, try this, try that, before they finally admitted that it was defective and fortunately they will replace it even after the warranty. But I am being charged $11.75 for a new device to be mailed to me and afterwards I am supposed to mail the defunct device back to them. My credit card information on my online account was outdated and after 1/2 hour of trying to enter a new credit card to no availal, I lost the connection. At least they had already processed the order to send a new device. I was able to log back in and put in a different credit card. But they put me through torture. My advice: Don't sign up for their 5 year plan. Your device probably won't last that long and then they will treat you the same when you need to get it replaced. I use this phone for my business. Fortunately I can use the other device while waiting for the replacement or I would really be in a fix.

The MagicJack allowed me to register and get a phone number assigned to it, but never did work. Couldn't get a dial tone or receive calls. Was on an internet chat with MagicJack support for 1.5 hours, and finally they pronounced the device dead. They were willing to send me a new one for $10.95 shipping/handling and did not need the bad one to be returned. Trouble is, I already paid the price for this thing and am not ready to pay another 21% to the company who distributes a bad product. So I've ordered an Amazon return, and have ordered another MagicJack. I will update this review with my experience with the replacement. Update 12-4-2013: The second MagicJack arrived today and it was able to assume my registration with the same phone number I had selected earlier for the DOA device. It calls out and receives calls perfectly. I have separated my home's phone wiring from the phone company's wiring in the gray plastic Outside Network Interface box on the side of my house. Then I connected the phone wire from my MagicJack to the nearest house jack, enabling the MagicJack service on all other jacks in the house. (Note that if you are moving from VOIP phone service with your cable provider, then there is no need to mess with the phone company's outside box. The cable company already did this for you.) I have 2 phones connected to jacks in the house and they work perfectly. I'm happy now and have upgraded my rating from one to three stars. After a suitable interval (a month or two) I will update again and possibly upgrade again to four stars. Five will be out of the question due to the first DOA device. Update 01-20-2014: The MagicJack Plus has worked flawlessly for 6 weeks. Upgrade to four stars. I had an issue where my phone service quit and I was ready to blame it on the MagicJack, so I went to their website and dug into their "Support" section. That is the lamest Support I believe I have seen in a long time. All the FAQs are related to how wonderful the MagicJack and its features are. Not much in the way of help. Turned out my computer chair had run over my phone's cord one too many times, though, so no fault of the MagicJack. I just replaced the cord. But still, four stars is the max I can give because of the original DOA unit as well as the uninformative website. Update 01-27-2014: I had occasion to send a fax today. The entire 3 page document transmitted on the first try with no hesitation or hiccups.

Magicjack! A great way to stick it to overpriced land line phone providers. This is the way to go when it comes to setting up a sensible house phone (because even pre paid cell phones are overpriced). Upon setting up Magicjack you are prompted to install the software on your computer and input information in order to be given a random phone number pertaining to your area code. Do you read the Terms of Service/Use when you install?... READ THIS ONE [...] Section 10 and 11 clearly read that Magick jack WILL SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION including your home address! This can be fixed however if you just provide a false address when installing magick jack on your computer. I've Also found that when inputing your information on the FIRST SCREEN. The second screen prompts you with the terms of service and you must click "Yes I agree" in order to continue. The problem here is once you click "next" on the first screen where you input all your information, its ALREADY SAVED to the magickjack website and cannot be changed or removed. I've contacted the FCC regaurding this and have recieved no response.... Waste of money that organization is. Anyways after you agree to the terms you are then prompted to select your city and area code. Your city may not appear in the list. Just pick whatever is close to you I guess, thats what I did. I live in Twinsburg OH and have a Kent OH phone number. After you install magick jack and write down your new home phone number it is STRONGLY RECCOMENDED THAT YOU UNINSTALL ALL MAGICKJACK SOFTWARE from your computer as it will contstantly spam your computer. Magick jack phone line is NOT ENCRYPTED like all other phone providers like AT&T, Timewarner, Cox and Verizon. This basicly means when your talking to someone on the phone it is NOT SAFE TO do things like read your credit card number over the phone to an online retailer, verify your social security number with a utility company or bank. I've had Magickjack Plus for 3 months now with no real problems but you can EXPECT your call to be PURPOSLEY DROPPED after about and hour or 2. This is how the company keeps its bandwith low and is described in the TOS. The quality of the calls are also lacking even with a nice new digital "DECT 6.0" phone. Your conversations will occasionally cut out for a second or two and half the time the person your talking to will sound like theyre on an analog rotory dial phone with a severely loose grounding issue. In conclusion I guess Magick jack is OK. If you make +$60,000 a year then I reccomend just biting the bullet and paying the phone companies high price of $25 a month with all the taxes and fees on top of that. People need to just realize how precious your privacy and security is.

Came in fast and I saved about 12 bucks ordering here than from MJ online (4.5% tax and MJ shipping came to 81 bucks, but ordering here no shipping or tax.) I had the old Magic Jack (MJ) and loved it but had to leave my computer on all the time. Initially I was not going to get the new plusit and lose my subscription for 5 years I bought but on setup I selected replace an existing one and got all my time (but not the free year it came with but that is minor compared to losing my remaining three years on the original one. I run it on a cable modem with a Linksys e3000 dual band router. I had a duh moment too. I used to hate the screen popping up on my computer when i was typing and could not wait to get it off screen. Plugged in the caller ID comes up if the caller is in the MJ contacts but when used this way it is exactly like a landline in that I only see caller ID on folks programmed into the phone set I use. I was so programmed for seeing all calls that I almost regretted switching. It took me all of one day to like it better than the distractions. If you use the MJ contact list and call from your computer a lot, you can still do that by disconnecting the device from the power and the Ethernet to the router and plug it in directly like the original. Although you then have to have the computer on so why upgrade? For those who would like cheap easy and cheap phone service that works as well as a wired phone for a home set and no minutes to buy, as long as you connect to the Internet at home via a cable modem. DSL requires a phone line so seems a waste there. But I have had 10 Mbs cable high speed and now the minimum 15 Mbs and MJ works perfectly for less than 2 bucks a month after the first year. (The first year includes the price of the MJ hardware one time only.) I can only comment on using it with average cable Internet, not DSL. MJ does not work on dial up, and regardless of the connection type, even on very fast cable, don't expect faxes to go through I do not care who tells you differently. Great buy here! Using MagicJack Plus with Comcast Performance (25Mbps/5Mbps) and it works just like a regular landline. Currently using without a computer. It's plugged into wall outlet then to my router and home phone. Set up and registration on PC was about 5 minutes. This is the modem and router I am using with MagicJack Plus. Motorola SB6121 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem Medialink Wireless-N Broadband Router (150 Mbps) - 2.4GHz - 802.11b/g/n First year service is free, clear sound calling out and receiving calls, ability to let MagicJack take voicemail or have home answering phone machine take voicemail. Haven't tried the other features. If you have unreliable internet service that drops and resets connection a lot, don't bother getting this. Ported my AT&T landline to a T-Mobile prepaid phone. Then I ported it again to Google Voice($20). After finally getting my number to Google Voice, I set it up to forward all my calls to my new MagicJack number. That way if someone calls my old number, it gets forwarded to my new number. Why go through all this? Because I don't want to pay $30+ a month for the most basic local only landline service. So $20 for prepaid phone, $10 mininum for prepaid minutes, $20 to port to Google voice and $50 for MagicJack Plus device. Total $100 for one year of local and long distance phone service. Saves me $250+ this year alone. I didn't want to port directly from AT&T to MagicJack because it's $20 plus $10 annually and it's a hassle to port out if you try to leave. Everything working flawlessly so far.

This is my second MagicJack Plus, what can I say, it works awesome! Once setup, you have the option to use the randomly generated numbers, or pay a bit more to have a permanent one. I chose to pay a bit more, as I wanted my folks to be able to call me on it as well. I chose a local number in their area so it would be free for them too. ;) Then, you plug it into your wall outlet, router, and connect up a phone. Press talk on your phone and you get a real dial tone and you are in business!

This product cannot be used as it is claimed with your phone nb transferred, it can only be used with a US or canadian international number. Who in the UK would be happy to dial such number? False claims, poor instructions, no plug for the UK. Very very poor.

This product is easy to set up all you have to do is hook it up to your computer to register an account and phone number and then into your telephone via the RJ-11 phone jack port then your ready to make *Free Local & Long Distance Calls*
