... look through this new Texas wildflower field guide the better it gets
The more I look through this new Texas wildflower field guide the better it gets. I'm impressed they managed to get so much information between the covers of one guide-sized book. Our family has accumulated many wildflower field guides, through many years of interest; this one seems the most comprehensive. Where most guides picture one example of a genus, there are more pictured here for use in Texas' varied habitats where details may be confusing and make it hard to pin down an identity. This guide's worth will be proven by its use in many hands.

Get Two! One for your desk and one for your car!
With his newly published “Wildflowers of Texas” (Timber Press), botanist and educator Michael Eason has produced an authoritative and beautiful book that will serve equally well as a field guide and reference work. In clear and succinct language, the author’s knowledge and love of the flora of Texas comes through on every page.A short chapter titled How to Use This Book explains the organization of the subject matter, leading off with flower color, plant family, Latin and scientific names, habitat and bloom times. Following that are chapters on Climate, Geography, and Ecoregions; Viewing Wildflowers; Plant Families and Glossary. These 40 pages make an excellent foundational study and can be considered a short course in Texas botany. The main part of the book is smartly laid out with three entries per page. The photographs are clear and chosen to show flowers, leaves and stems. The text entries are pleasingly concise and consistent in format and style, using botanical terms that are referenced in the Glossary, and ending with a brief description of each plant’s range.Budding and seasoned botanists, and everybody that loves plants, will enjoy this superbly presented, nicely sized and attractive book, which is also available on Kindle. Consider purchasing two copies—one for the car and one for the office, as you won’t want to leave home without it!Kim Conrow, 2019 President-Elect, Native Plant Society of Texas

Make sure you can view the photos in color in what ever format you purchase
This is an essential tool for identifying wild flowers but I wish I had purchased the flexibound version. It didn't dawn on me that the Kindle Paperweight doesn't have color, so none of the photos are in color. This makes it very difficult to identify the wildflowers. Do not purchase this for a Kindle Paperwhite. I've given the book 5 stars because it is an excellent reference tool. Usefulness for a Kindle would be zero.

Difficult to follow
Pictures are nice and clear and size of book is handy. It would have been better for me if layman terms were used. Categorizing by color was a little daunting and difficult. I could have used it more if plants were categorized bye location Such as bog woods, open field. Texas has extremes such as desert, coastal and bog, forest, cold in the north and west, central Texas and it’s dwarfed trees and plants. Otherwise I will continue to use this book and hopefully become more familiar with it.The picture is a field behind my house.... found Similar pictures of this plant but no true identifications made.

The book was listed as Used, it was New
I bought two of these, one for my photo bag, the Used one. The used one was new, the pages never relaxed.Another New one for my library. The content is top notch. I know a professional botanist who uses this book.As with any book of photographs, especially those made in the field, some photographs could be improved upon, but these are over all very, very good. The scope of this work is truly monumental. In the Foreword, the author thanks the many landowners who allowed him access to their properties. Mr. Eason also photographed many species in Northern Mexico that are rare or uncommon in Texas, so this guide should be equally useful in Mexico as well.

Excellent Field Guide
Love this book! It has been a great year for wildflowers in Texas and this book has proven to be a very valuable tool to take into the field and help you identify the beautiful wildflowers as you travel the roads of Texas. So far I have identified 20 different wildflowers just on our small acreage in East Texas. I was not familiar with the proper descriptive terms used to help with plant identification so there has been a small learning curve with that, but overall I have had great fun finding and photographing wildflowers, AND actually knowing what they are! the flowers are categorized by color which really helps in identification. Happy Wildflower hunting!

Good deal for Texas native plant enthusiasts
Nothing to dislike - Like the arrangement ( by blossom color) and the field guide friendly features, such as rulers on the flaps, and the binding and covers. Not one to sit on the shelf. Mike Eason (founder of he Texas Flora Facebook group) has done himself proud and all of us in Texas favor with this compilation.

Easy to use and true colors
A very well thought-out book. Arranged by color, and then alphabetically by scientific name within each color section. The photos are very true to the color of the actual plant. Descriptions are concise and clear. A welcome addition to the Texas flora book selection.
