Cate Blankett is sublime
I am not always a huge fan of Woody Allen. I do respect him as a filmmaker but it is not always to my taste. I think parts of this film didn't quite work for me but Cate Blanchett's outstanding performance was why I awarded it four stars. She fully deserved the Oscar and that was the film's saving grace.

Kate Blanchett is painfully mesmerizing in this multifaceted exploration of class, privilege, and madness.
I found this a very painful but Moorish watch. Woody Allen has an ability to transmute polite societies follies into a visceral comment on its vacuous and superficial existence. He does this best through the vehicle of female muses and none better acted than kate Blanchett. This must be amongst her finest work. Allen pulls no punches at seamlessly using working class memes in exposing the empty life's of the rich and educated classes. In affect there are no differences in needs and wants just the cruel exposure of how both classes abuse their respective peers. Alcohol and pharmaceutical props feature heavily for both classes with mental health thematic in this drama. Woody is a master alchemist in transmitting his real life observations to the big screen. A sad revealing indictment on occidental life and self inflicted tragedy.

Outstanding and Harrowing
Some beautiful performances here, not least by Sally Hawkins, as Ginger, but it's Cate Blanchett who will steal your heart - she is impeccable. I'll say no more - buy it.

Superb
I have seen this several times- twice at the cinema. It’s an oddball drama/comedyish film about a high-flying socialite who drops very hard into mental health and financial troubles. It’s full of great acting and it’s something you’re either going to love or hate.

Fabulous film
This is a great film of someone who had it all, then lost it and really hit rock bottom that she is in the midst of a breakdown, but also trying to re-invent herself. The performances of all of the actors and actresses are of the highest quality. A sequel would be interesting to see if Jasmine ever goes into therapy and starts to climb back up the ladder of life.

Merciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Woody Allen's Late Career Masterpiece
Everyone seems to acknowledge that this brilliant film is Allen's homage to Tennessee Williams and, in particular, "A Streetcar Named Desire". No matter. It stands perfectly on its own as a cinematic gem and has a dream cast that most directors would die for. I haven't seen an actress get under the skin of a character better than Cate Blanchett does as Jasmine. She is a selfish, snobbish, strong-willed witch of a woman who arrives in San Francisco to live with her lower middle-class half-sister Ginger (brilliantly played by Sally Hawkins). Jasmine can be acerbic and funny, but, as we learn, she is falling apart mentally. Ginger's boyfriend Chili (also a fine performance) sees.through Jasmine in much the same way as Stanley Kowalski in "Streetcar". But, in spite of her haughtiness, and frequent cruelty to those in her sister's blue collar world, we root for Jasmine. Her redemption seems almost possible when she meets a rich self-absorbed State Department type on his way up (Peter Sarsgaard). "Blue Jasmine" is a rich, sophisticated, funny, tragic film. It is a must for any Woody Allen fan and any serious film-goer. Definitely one of 2013's best, and Blanchett rightly received the Best Actress Oscar. Any other choice would have been a real tragedy.

Great movie
Wow, what can I say about this film. Woody Allen out did himself with this film. I'm not a giant Woody Allen fan, but boy can he assemble a perfect cast. Cate Blanchett so very much deserved that Oscar she got for best actress for this film. A well written film, great cast, awesome performances all around but especially for Cate Blanchett who stands out. There's not one visual effect in this film. And it doesn't need it. The performances are effects, they're mesmerizing especially Blanchett.Blanchett plays a once wealthy woman who's life has come crashing down and is forced to move in with her sister. Recovering from a nervous breakdown, that she's slightly endanger of falling back into. She struggles to put the pieces back together. The movie periodically is told in flashback, to show how her life fell apart.
