Give Me Half! (MathStart 2)

Kids Love It
I bought this book because I remembered visiting the having it read to my class by the school librarian in the 90s. As a first grade teacher, I bring it out an read it when we start understanding 1/2 & 1/4 in the spring. The kids love it and want to read it constantly. They think it is sweet and funny. Struggling readers can often read it too because of the rhyming help. I see there is a lot of negative reviews, but characters in books are often not role models and it is a good chance to have a conversation. Must have for first grade classrooms! I love to see math & literacy together.

Entertaining book for very basic fraction concepts
I got this book for my daughter, who is in Kindergarten. It illustrates very basic fraction concepts in a way that got my daughter very interested (pizza, cupcakes, etc). For it's purpose, the book entertained my daughter with the talk of sharing with siblings (which she connected to also with friends) and there's a food fight at the end that she found funny. We did have a discussion afterwards about how she should not really talk like they do in the book and we don't really throw food, but she seemed to have no problem understanding that it was a book and was supposed to be funny, and that it wasn't necessarily real. Now whenever we have food that can be easily divided she has a blast applying fractions to it.

Fun Living Book for Math!
We adore these Math Start books as living books in our elementary education to teach math concepts! The physical application of concepts in the story helps me as an educator come up with better activities to apply new concepts! The illustrations are beautiful and the books are to the point and uncomplicated. Love these as a resource to introduce new units!

Great book!
Great read aloud book to teach half fractions. I wish it included more fractions, as I tend to teach more than one fraction a lesson. Still, it was a great read.

Awesome!
Fun book with wonderful rhyming lyric that got my 2 year old interested in reading (he would actually start finishing my sentences) and SHARING! Subject matter deals with two siblings dividing favorite foods in half. Though fractions are mentioned, the material is dealt with in a way that is conceptually easy to grasp by kids younger than the 4-8 year old recommended age. We have several of the MathStart/level 2 books, but this one is by far our favorite!
