RAT 3 8633
I love my RAT3 (8633)--Do they still make them? I looked for about 2 weeks for a utility knife, I looked at the BK2,7. ESEE2,3 and some other Seal pups and similar knives before dropping the dime on this beauty.I sometimes find myself just looking at how beautiful she is with it's green kydex sheath, Tek-Lok clip if I wanna put her on something else, the weight and size--perfect for everyday carry if you want the speed of a fixed blade instead of having to worry about opening a knife first. Very simple and strong. The handle and how flat the knife is equals a plus for carrying on your side. Keep in mind, the advertisment for this knife is incorrect and the description is totally wrong. I recieved a (RAT-3 8633- green sheath). Watch the model numbers.-Cheers

Perfect size fixed blade for edc.
Good solid blade, I love the locking sheath with the tek-lok adapter, very customizable for your needs. I deducted one star because the knife edge needed a lot of cleaning up. Knife is a little sticky at first when it comes to removing from the sheath but it gets smoother with use.

Great Knife! False Advertisement.
When I was looking around for a new E.D.C. knife I stumbled upon this great knife. So far the RAT-3 has been great, and has held up to tough tasks and I'm sure will do the same in the future.I read another review of this knife and saw that another person had a problem with representation, the seller said that he/she corrected the problem, so I believed what I read. When I opened the knife I noticed the sheath is more of a foliage green color, as for the micarta handles, they were/are a dark brown color. In the picture I saw light colors, this is STILL incorrect. As for me I don't care, that's why I gave it 5 stars still. But I'm just warning future buyers.

Great knife but wrong one
Let me begin by saying this is a great knife it is very sturdy and well-made however I specifically ordered a knife without serrations yet I received a knife with serrations.

Great knife!
Great knife! It feels very solid in the hand and well built like other ONC products. My intended use for this knife is to sit on my battle belt for SHTF and zombie apocalypse type situations. It should fulfill that role perfectly as it came with an excellent sheath to hold it in place on my belt. Sometimes, I pull it out of its sheath to look at it in all of its glory. I'm guessing its the same feeling King Arthur had when he pulled Excalibur from the stone.

Some useful details...
First off, let me say that the product descriptions and images for the RAT-3 family of knives on Amazon are somewhat ambiguous and misleading. To clarify, as far as I am aware, all RAT-3 knives have identical "green" micarta handles and black coated blades. I call it "green", because to my eye the pre-weathered and slightly shaggy micarta is lighter and closer to beige or tan than olive drab. Of course that's the nature of micarta, so your mileage may vary...With that out of the way, note the differences between the four available RAT-3 models:8630 - Plain blade, black sheath8631 - Serrated blade, black sheath8632 - Plain blade, green sheath8633 - Serrated blade, green sheathThe Amazon descriptions seem unreliable or confused (I think some interpret the jimping on the back of the blade as serrations...I believe all models have the jimping), so I recommend taking the images with a grain of salt and focusing on the model number to predict what you are likely to get. Some additional thoughts. For my size-large meatpaws, the knife is a bit small in-hand, but the grip is still fairly secure and comfortable, particularly with a thumb on the aggressively jimped spine. The finger choil just behind the blade allows an even better full-hand grip, but is a bit undersized, small, and shallow. The result is that with an aggressive grip, the tapered back portion of the blade digs into your index finger more than I would like. If you have bigger hands than mine, you could actually cut your finger using the choil if you are not very careful. So, given the small handle size, I recommend making yourself a decently beefy paracord lanyard to give a little more real-estate for hanging onto the knife. Unfortunately, the lanyard hole itself is a bit small for feeding a loop of standard 550 cord through. If you use "gutted" paracord, you should be able to get it to work, but it's still a tight fit. Also, while the full tang is slightly exposed at the butt end of the knife, it is unlikely that you could use it for hammering unless you have very small hands. My model is 8632 - plain blade with green sheath. The sheath is nice enough, but seems a little chintzy compared to some Kydex sheaths I have. It does come with a detachable plastic belt clip which appears to be reasonably secure but is positioned a bit too low to keep the handle from flopping around. There is also a TekLok included with the knife (a nice bonus given that they appear to run ~$12 by themselves), but I haven't played with it yet. The sheath has good positive retention of the blade even for inverted carry, but the whole package seems a bit bulky to wear it as a neck knife, as some suggest. The green sheath is a slightly lighter shade than OD, but not as light as foliage green. The blade itself is 1/8" thick and has a nice full flat grind from spine to blade -- very much a mini survival knife. I doubt you'd want to baton or chop down trees with it, but overall the RAT-3 is a sturdy, maneuverable knife that should be more than adequate for most light camping tasks or general utility use.
