It is adaptable and is the ideal solution for aquariums that do not have a sump. After assembling the product, please proceed as follows: Choose where to position the skimmer inside your aquarium. Remember to clean the surface (both inside and outside the aquarium) carefully so the "magnet + suction-cup" supports can stick properly. Position the skimmer so that the water level is at the mid-height of the Skimmer Grid. Position the Collection Cup by adjusting the O-ring. Connect the pump to the electrical supply. The following instructions on regulating water level and airflow are only indicative for the start up of the skimmer. It will then be up to you to adjust the system to better fit your aquarium. Important: The skimmer needs to run at least three to seven days before it starts foaming properly and the setting becomes final. It is possible to notice some air bubbles entering the aquarium through the drainage. This is normal and these bubbles will disappear once the skimmer reaches its operating balance. Regulation Collection Cup Regulation For heavily-stocked aquariums or for dark foam/skimmate, lift the Collection Cup and lower the O-ring gradually. For aquariums with normal stocking levels or for light foam/skimmate, lower the Collection Cup by lifting the O-ring gradually. Attention: It is advisable to adjust the Collection Cup in small intervals of 1/8" or 1/4" at a time. For every adjustment, you will need a few hours before verifying if the foam production suits your needs. Repeat this process until you achieve the desired setting without going beyond the indicated "Minimum" and "Maximum" level. Air Regulation Air flow can be regulated by adjusting the airflow control valve. Attention: The air tube should always be positioned correctly on the Collection Cup Lid and should never hang over the side of the aquarium. Maintenance Attention: Before placing hands in your aquarium, always disconnect all electrical devices immersed in water from electrical outlet. Regular cleaning and maintenance of the skimmer and the foaming pump will ensure better performance and durability. Check the Collection Cup and clean it on a regular basis. Periodically clean the skimmer body with water to remove any trace of algae or calcium residue. Remember to rinse thoroughly to avoid any detergent residue. Attention: Cleaning the skimmer will "reset" the skimmer and it will take a few days for it to return to the desired efficiency. Regularly clean (or when airflow diminishes) the air intake tube and air control valve since they could be blocked with calcium, salt or dust residue. Pay special attention to the foaming/supply pump. Correct maintenance will ensure durability of the impeller and less noise. Calcium residue could form between the shaft and the impeller as well as in the impeller chamber. These residues can cause friction, over-heating and premature wear and tear that compromise the correct function of the components. For this reason, the pump and the impeller should be washed in an acid solution such as MagiKlean (#73696). Aquarium use only! Keep away from children.
