Where have you been all my life??
I wish I had bought this sooner. I homeschool my children, 2 of them are 6 and 7 years old. We go through pencils...a lot. And I spent so much time sharpening pencils... over.... and over.....I bought this and it was a game changer. This thing is on crack. It is SO fast. And it gets them CRAZY sharp! I love that I can put it in OR use a battery. Although with my kids ... I definitely keep the batteries out and a the plug in far away. I don't need any fingers getting shredded. It's a little weird getting the piece off and on to empty. But after getting the hang of that everything is great. Seriously. Get this. So great for the money.I meant to review ages ago. I've had this thing for like....a year or something now. And it's still great!

Took a beating and kept on working!
I just sharpened 12 unsharpened pencils that are completely black--from the eraser, the wood on the outside and inside and accidently put one in eraser first. It shredded the rubber and metal. I took it apart, and I'll be darned, it still worked! It didn't sharpen as evenly pre-eraser, but worked well enough for me to finish sharpening the rest! It runs on 2 AA batteries and comes with a USB cable so it's completely portable. I was able to sharpen approximately 12 to 16 pencils between battery changes. I'm buying a couple more to keep on hand for my next blunder!

Works. Ordinary. Overpriced.
It works. So far it sharpens pencils ok and quickly. I have only used it while connected via USB to my computer. But there is no magic here. It is quite ordinary and cheaply made. I have no idea why it is priced as it is.It is small. Fits in the palm of your hand. They should remove the picture of it with the hand and pencil It is nowhere near that size!

Fine for light use
It is small, light weight and sharpens fast . Maybe too fast as it sharpens unevenly and the point (lead) just keeps falling out. The point is so sharp that it breaks off easily.

Durable
We have had this for a long time and it still works well even after my 3 kids are not so nice to it. That's a win in my book!

You don't even get what you pay for -- just a junky, cheap pseudo-sharpener
I thought a $10 electric sharpener would be great for my kids' playroom (so they stop using my good electric pencil sharpener). But this battery or USB-powered sharpener is just junk. Sorry. The first one I ordered arrived DOA. Totally non-functional. The company quickly replaced it so the customer service is fine. But they can't fix the poor quality. This pencil sharpener isn't like other electric sharpeners that have the spiral blade that makes a smooth point. This one has a blade just like a hand-held sharpener and the battery barely powers it to move around the pencil. It gets stuck and you have to move the pencil in and out a few times to get it close to something resembling sharp. (And this was on a dull pencil that had previously been sharpened, it was not on a completely unsharpened pencil, which I am convinced this sharpener would not be able to handle.) The end result was a semi-point that looks like it had been hacked at by a knife, as if someone had whittled it to a point with a knife.Additionally, on both sharpeners (the one that "worked" and the one that didn't), closing the battery compartment after putting in the batteries, and then opening it again after putting in batteries, was nearly impossible to do without using something for leverage. In the world of you-get-what-you-pay-for, this isn't even what you pay for. This is just a poorly-designed, poorly-made item. The 99-cent sharpeners at Staples work much better. And the Amazon listing is for $10, discounted from $30! What?! Skip this one and spend $20 on an electric sharpener that you can actually plug into a wall. I learned my lesson from this one.

Great for any work area
This is a great compact pencil sharpener. It is very sleek and small which makes it go great in any space. My favorite thing about it is that it can run on batteries or be plugged into the wall. This makes this particular pencil sharpener very handy for my and my kids because I can take it anywhere and when i run out of batteries, because I always do, I can easily plug it into the wall and it can still be used instead of it being out of commission until I get more batteries. The sharpener sharpens very well too. From brand new and blunt to perfectly sharp in seconds. You do have to have a hand on it because it is so effective it tends to spin itself along with the pencil.

Worst electric pencil sharpener I've ever used
I was looking forward to using this pencil sharpener because my kid just started school, and the school asks for sharpened pencils. I went to put the batteries in, and even the battery cover is cheaply made. It almost broke just getting it back on. I got a new pencil to sharpen, and out made this chewing sound after a little bit. I took the pencil out, and it looked like it was chewed our sharpened with a knife rather than with a pencil sharpener. It was not smooth. The tip was somewhat sharp, but somewhat broken, so writing is not as smooth as expected. When you first start sharpening, it sounds smooth, then you look at the pencil and is not fully sharpened. When you hold the pencil down to sharpen, it's when it starts chewing and chopping. Also, after you empty the container, the lid is hard to get back on. It takes a bit too align it properly, so it goes back in its place. I would not recommend this sharpener to anyone. Pay a little more for better quality.
