Very nice with two little problems
Surprisingly nice qualify for the price but there are a few qualifiers. The area in focus is super tiny with my a6000 55-210mm lens (example photos attached) unless you really close the aperture which means alternative lighting or a high ISO is needed. Also, the macro attachment comes with an adaptor to fit the 55mm-210mm Sony lens, this isn't meant for the kit lens and won't fit. And the macro lens adaptor needs to be screwed onto the lens prior to screwing in to the 55mm lens EACH TIME YOU USE IT; once you are done taking macro shots it needs to be unscrewed from the 55mm lens then disassembled from the macro lens if you want to be able to put the protective cap back on to protect the glass. It's just an extra two annoying steps and means you need to keep it in a little baggie with the separate part as opposed to being able to just store in your camera bag ready to go but with the ends capped like any other lens. In the end it's worth the hassle and added maybe another 60 seconds of work to attach and remove from the lens.

GREAT for the low-cost alternative to high end macro lenses.
I recently purchased a Sony A6000 digital camera. I do primarily product photography for online vintage products. I also have an interest in outdoor macro photography. With all of the cost in a new camera, the two lens kit + the 35mm 1.8 lenses I purchased, I needed a macro lens for those ocassional close ups of markings on pottery, silverware, and other details that prime or zoom lenses won't pick up. I considered the Sony 35mm macro at $250, but would prefer a longer focal length of 60+ so that if using for nature macro, I won't disturb the insect by getting so close. In comes this inexpensive Opteka close up attachment. It did a good job for my needs, though it is by no means a high end lens. I used it recently on my Sony 35mm 1.8 prime lens just to experiment on some nature photography. These were all handheld in auto mode.

A fun toy, but has a learning curve.
I shoot with a Sony A3000 using a 1.8 50mm prime 99% of the time as a portrait photographer and love it. I mostly shoot family lifestyle sessions, but I've getting more into newborn photography. Just got this about 2 days ago and I've been playing around with it as a cheaper option to a macro lens. A few things:It's very hard to focus, and even more so if you like to shoot wide open. I would recommend the highest aperture you can while shooting with this to ensure you can get sharp images. The images seem a bit fuzzy overall. There's definitely some chromatic aberration with this lens, and even in manual focus its hard to get super sharp images (see above). But for $25 its a fun thing to throw on and play with. I'll update once I test it out on a newborn shoot. All of these images were taken with a 50mm prime, f2.5-3.5 with varying shutter speeds and iso.

using w 55mm lens on a7r2
its a great little piece you can buy but i feel the little macro lens kit you can get for smartphones at walmart did a little better at macro..but ill just have to use this more. the things you zoom in on..the focus is only going to be on a small part of it..the rest is going to be blurry...so if you take pics of things bigger than a golf ball, youre going to get alot of blur around the object itself and not just the backround. this i think will only be used with flowers and bugs. but cant complain at all since its only $25.

Great Cheap Macro Option!
For the price, this macro diopter can’t be beat. It’s cheap enough to dip your feet into macro photography and with some step up/down rings you can attach this diopter to any of your lenses. I really like using it on my 30mm sigma 1.4 contemporary.I didn’t give it all 5 stars because there seems to be an unevenness to the focus. Center of the lens isn’t always where your focal point is. I’ll update my review if I find that the focusing issue is user error.I’ve included a few photos taken with the kit Sony 18-55mm and sigma 30mm on my Sony A6300

Great little addition!
I bought this first kinda skeptical of it since I didn't understand how things like this worked also off my first few shots with nothing in focus.I was pleasantly surprised when I sat down with it and fiddled around with the settings which made me wonder... Why buy a macro tube? With those you lose your connectivity for the most part to the lens, thus not being able to adjust setting; this on the other hand allows you to even have auto focus.Overall I think this is a really neat addition to a kit lens for macro photography on the cheap. Won't beat a proper macro but also doesn't cause the wallet to scream either.Pros+Cheap+Works with a variety on lens types+Allows full function of the lens+For the price the pictures are pretty greatCons-Weight-Need to take it off for normal photography-Strong vignetting when at lowest zoom (Fixed by zooming in)

surprisingly good
Lense converters are generally very problematic. They will never be a substitute for interchangeable lenses. That being said, I found this converter to be a surprisingly good way to extend my video camera's macro capability. Furthermore I found the the price to be very inexpensive. But do bear in mind that as with any lense converter, they depend upon many aspects of both the converter as well as the original lense for good results. Therefore what works well with one camera might not work so well with another. One good rule of thumb. Whatever converter you buy should be larger than the thread sizes of your camera. Vignetting is an almost universal problem with converters. If you get a larger converter than your lens will allow, but use a step-up ring adapter, this greatly reduces this problem.

Good enough
Works for my Sony A6000. It's a cheap alternative for those close up detailed macro shots.I sell a few things on the internet and needed to get in close on the details/lettering/stickers and this works well. The only issue I have is the focus.Only a tiny section of it is in focus while the blur is intense/not natural. Also, if you zoom out all of the way there is a black shroud around the edges until you zoom in a bit.

I'm Ready For My Close-Up, Mister DeMille
One gets what one pays for, but at this price point you really can't go wrong. By the saying of which I mean that this little close-up lens isn't perfect. It seems to reduce depth-of-field to a very narrow band even in good lighting conditions, and there is a very obvious dark ring round the image when the lens to which it's attached is at a wide angle. These things are to be expected I guess because of how much I *didn't* pay. HOWEVER! For the price (less than $40CA) this is a great little accessory! I'll say this: it's very sturdily built, with an encouraging amount of weight in one's hand indicating robust manufacture. Made to fit a 58mm filter thread, it comes with adapter rings for 40.5mm and 49mm lenses so you can adapt it to pretty much whatever you like, although anything bigger than 58mm would be, I guess, a poor match. In addition to the adapters it comes with a handy little draw-string bag and a cleaning cloth. Anyway I tried it out straight away using my wee budgie as subject material and I was gobsmacked at the detail it brings to life! Although my Sony NEX-5R with its 18-55mm kit lens has a macro mode, this makes it even better. It captures details in the bird's plumage which are far too small to be visible to the naked eye, such as his eyelashes. Yes, budgies have eyelashes; who knew? But I digress. Like I said, it's not perfect but I'm going to give it a very happy five stars because it's such a favourable price. If you need a close-up lens but are feeling the pinch in this economy, this is an ideal solution until you can save for something a little more high end, which you might even find you don't have to. Highly recommended. :-)

Fantastic!!!
You need to understand that macro is hard! It requires you to have good camera support(tripod or similar) for steady shot, consider lighting, as you will be close to subjects blocking lots of light. shallow depth of field is ridiculous, hence you need to close aperture, exacerbating light issue etc... Your ability to focus also takes on much smaller range as is to be expected. On my Sony 28mm F2, range dropped to something like 10cm-25cm from original 29cm to infinityNow, if you understand that macro is hard, so you don't expect a miracle, this is the best toy ever for $25 or so! I'm not using word toy in a disparaging way, just that you can enjoy yourself and experiment for super low cash outlay, and if you like what you're getting, you can go and get a proper macro lens.Build of this lens add-on looks good, optical quality seems just fine looking at the global picture (didn't pixel peep), and there is much to enjoy in the process.Laowa and Opteka seem to be the same company, and Laowa (Venus) is doing some truly amazing stuff with lenses that never existed before, like wide angle macro, wide angle - 'zero' distortion etc...I'm putting effort in this review (I usually don't do reviews) because I wish them all the best and to succeed.

Awesome lense ( missing cover)
Im pretty new at photography but i found this lense pretty cool to use not to mention the price is awesome gets the job done.Photos are crisp and close if you got unshaky hands. The 5 stars because with the adaptor screwed on lense did not come with cover...so you always have dissasemble both parts to cover both sides of lense.Extra work for no reason. The lense is awesome I recommend.

Nice lens for 49mm and 58mm lenses (Not 40.5mm)
It works and takes quality photos. Two things to note:- Using a glass lens such as this one creates some distortion and eats more light that extension tubes.- Be aware that the bundled lenses that come with Sony a5000, a5100 and a6000 come with a 40.5mm lens and this item will not fit on those directly.
