Cheapest thing I’d call a real snare drum
This uses the old Ludwig formula of 14x6.5” with a single bead, but it uses a thin steel shell rather than the Black Beauty’s nickel plated brass or the Acrolite’s Aluminum, which makes this a bit more cutting. However, I would say it’s pretty close to the Acrolite tone overall. Tuned properly this has tremendous punch and great lows and highs without too much whine wide open. Throw a wallet on there for 70’s soul.Get this and the better cheap steel piccolo (probably the 16 lug one or the Mapex) as an option and you’ve got all you need in snare drums for $200. I like the matte black look and the fit and finish are all excellent on this piece. They are competing with the used market and doing very well here I believe. See if anything else earns its way into your kit after starting here.

Excellent Drum!
My son loves this drum. Sturdy and responsive. He’s been playing drums for 19 years and is a pro... he knows good drums. Excellent service!

Junk.
I’m a drummer and have been playing for 30+ years. I have played shows for 18 years. This snare drum is loud and that’s about all.I’ve used quality heads and I am very aware on how to tune a drum and this has no quality sound. It buzzes and rings and the snare strainer is junk. Can’t get it right and when you can it works it way loose again.
