Good book, helpful for Neuro ICU
It's 2017 and I bought this to help with my neuro ICU job. My friend has the new version, and it's pretty much the same info.

I have updated to the new edition
I bought the first edition of this book after transfering from a multisystem ICU to a neuro-surgical ICU. I have found it to be a very Nurse friendly book. I have several resources for neuro, some are very complex.Joanne Hickey has put together information on a very cerebral topic that is for Nurses from novice to expert.

Disappointing and many errors
Regarding a hard copy of the eighth edition, I found that it didn't live up to it's reputation for being the 'bible' for Neuro nursing. I purchased the book to solidify concepts for my rn job in a Neurosurg ICU, and in prep for the CNRN exam. I'm not satisfied that it did either of those things. Specifically, there are loads of grammatical errors, the figures and illustrations are poorly created and labelled, the anatomy sections are inadequate, and it is outdated within many crit care topics (though admittedly, neurology is advancing quickly right now and it may be unrealistic for a textbook to be current, but I would expect the authors to acknowledge this fact in the areas changing most rapidly). I found this text lacking in regards to caring for ICU pts, with a shallow approach to crit care in general. Also, don't expect to find much about pediatrics or developmental disorders. Unfortunately, I can't recommend a better text and I recognize that my opinion is in the minority of reviewers on this site.

Poor graphics, not well organized text. Not work the money.
The illustrations are at best unhelpful, and don’t have the major information that is being described in the text. The coloring is confusing in that a half of one bone and half of another are colored the same way (for example), making the information difficult to absorb. Since I’m a visual learner, this makes it especially challenging. Most importantly, the way that the chapters are set up and written are extremely confusing. The authors refer to different aspects of neuro anatomy without explanation, then drop information where it only confounds the reader. It helps to have a strong neuro background before getting this book to review what you already know.I certainly don’t recommend.
