Power Output Not as Rated - Test Results Shown
I recently purchased this PPI SPL 50001 and was curious why it is not listed on the PPI website. I used my sources to inquire and was told this "SPL" line was originally intended for the Mexico market. Very interesting, especially since the manual and all instructions are in English. Possibly the ESL market? This SPL 50001 amp is rated the following via the manual and Amazon:1100W at 4 ohms1700W at 2 ohms2500W at 1 ohm5000W "MAX" at lightning strikes the ampI received the amp and unboxed it. Inside is the manual (in English), warranty card, extra 120A fuse, mounting screws, bass knob (plastic) and remote bass cable. The amp itself feels very cheap and light. No thick aluminum here friends.Next up I hooked the amp up to the SMD AD-1 Amplifier Dyno for testing. The AD-1 measures RMS power output using a 40Hz or 1kHz test tone signal. Obviously this is a subwoofer amp, so we'll use the 40Hz tone. Here are my results:All tests performed using SMD Amp Dyno AD-1, serial number 12. Test tone 40Hz4 ohms (rated 1100W):476W at 4 ohms to 1% THD at 14.63VDC492W at 4 ohms to clipping at 14.52VDC505W at 4 ohms Dynamic Burst at 14.68VDC2 ohms (rated 1700W):760W at 2 ohms to 1% THD at 14.46VDC811W at 2 ohms to clipping at 14.34VDC881W at 2 ohms Dynamic Burst at 14.62VDC1 ohm (rated 2500W / 5000W):1061W at 1 ohm to 1% DHD a 14.28VDC1150W at 1 ohm to clipping at 14.09VDC1336W at 1 ohm Dynamic Burst at 14.38VDCAs you can see the amp fails miserably to meet or reach half of it's rated power. That's too bad. We also opened up the amp and found it's basically a cookie cutter design, utilized by many other manufacturers...bummer! PPi was always a mid/high end brand back in the 80's and 90's, but I'm sad to say this one uses some of the cheapest components available. At least now you know.Hope this review helps potential buyers.DereckWilliston Audio Labs

A great deal for more amp than you'll ever probably need
I love this amp! I have it hooked up in my e90 bmw with 0 gauge ofc power and ground, with a 1 farad cap, 2 massive audio 10s dvc 2ohms per cool, paralleled into a .6-.8 ohm total load and this amp breathes fire! It's at about 65% gain, no bass boost, subsonic filter rolled off, lpf at 65hz and it's way more power than I could want, heck I even have my decks sub control turned into the negatives for daily listening. I've never pushed this amp how it could for spl means, but there's so much headroom I have no doubt this thing would be a monster. It's very compact for it's power and I've never had an issue with clipping, distortion or heat dissipation. Huge bang for the buck!

Incredible
I have 2x Skar 12s and it pushes these to the max. I had a previous amp I bought (Lanzar 3000 watt from Heritage) and the quality of bass is astonishing. You can tell the difference in poor performance bass to best output bass. I didnt think you could, but you can! This is the type of amp that should be in every car! Easy hookup, Easy settings to work with, and overall an Outstanding performing amp. Will highly recommend to my friends, because they dont have one and future people I come in contact with. Enjoy!

It draws a lot of power
The amp has plenty of power for whatever it is you want to run...It doesn’t have 5000 watts tho!Tuning capabilities are awesome. All in all I would recommend this product to friends...

Amp blew my 1600watt dual voice coil skar audio 12's
I think I got a lemon amp, first the amp blew my subs then went into protection so I unplugged the amp for a full 24 hrs as per protocol also the subs were already broken in. so i sent the amp back and the skar audio RP-2000.1 took its place along with 2 new skar SVR- 12's dual voice coil 4ohm 800watts RMS 1600watts peak. I went to installers institute of daytona beach fl. I'm MECP certified and own my own car audio and security store and installation bay. IM not bragging I just want to be clear that it had nothing to do with me. well with the new skar amp and subs it is so loud I cracked my back window, and the amp was only a quarter of the way up. I truly love PPI i have a four channel for my mids&hi's and it is the best sound quality amp along with 4 sets of MB quart x line component sets and my PPI amp is only set at half in the rear and quarter in front its screams. PPI is old school and the black ice or the spl series I sell like crazy. if your a sound quality audiophile then go with a PPI 4channel class D and a class D mono block PPI then MBquarts discus subwoofer with component sets x line. you will be happy

Welcomed Surprise
I just installed it and am very surprised by the output. My main sub amp blew a fuse then would not com back on after replacing fuse. I bought this as an inexpensive fill in until I had enough to get another amp. I may just get another one of these and strap them. It actually has more output than my old amp. Since it only operates on low sub hertz range, the sound is great. Excellent bang for the buck. I drive a single 2000 watt RMS 15" sub.
