Amazing game for NES
This is one of my all time favorite NES games. The platforming is fun and not too annoying, and it has plenty of secrets as well. I also like the fact that I can chose my own path for completing levels. It reminds me a little of Mega Man, but I feel like the control over the character is better. If you are still playing NES games or just starting to see what 8 bit gaming was like, pick up this title. You won't regret it.

A Disney Spin on Capcom's Mega Man Formula
Darkwing Duck, based on the 90s Disney cartoon, is made by Capcom during one of their strongest eras, the NES. And it shows. Built in the same engine used for the Mega Man series, Darkwing Duck plays similarly, with a mix of platforming and shooting as you make your way through a pick-your-own-order series of levels, taking on boss fights, and saving the city.Don't mistake this for just a reskinned Mega Man game, though. Darkwing Duck has it's own gameplay quirks. Darkwing can hang from lots of platforms, hooks, and even parts of walls, giving the game some fun jumping and combat challenges that feel unique and challenging. Like Mega Man, Darkwing has a number of different weapons at his disposal, though you find them as pickups in levels rather than getting them as rewards from defeating a boss. The boss fights in Darkwing Duck also feel much more creative than the standard one-on-one Robot Master bosses in Mega Man games, with Darkwing's boss fights incorporating his hanging mechanic pretty strongly, as well as adding a lot more things like minions or arena gimmicks to keep them fresh. What could have easily been a simple Mega Man clone really feels like it's own game here, and personally I enjoy it just as much as- if not more than- the best Mega Man offerings the NES has.Like Capcom's other Disney games for the NES (Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, etc), Darkwing Duck has tight controls and challenging, but not unfair level design. Everything here is doable, the game is incredibly approachable, you just might have to slow down to understand what you need to do from time to time. Rushing is always the enemy in Capcom's Mega Man games, and the same applies here. Precision is key, and the controls are good enough to let that be a fun thing for the game to ask of you.Personally, I find Darkwing Duck stands up well to the test of time, and like Capcom's other NES titles it's still a ton of fun to play even now. If you don't want to pony up for the original NES version (which can be maybe more expensive than you'd expect), it's also available as part of the Disney Afternoon Collection on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Wherever you can get it, it's a game worth playing.
