Valve has made another game. Is it a masterpiece, or will it be left in the bargain bin of mediocraty?
If you've seen the star rating, then you know what I think of this game; I F@#$ING LOVE IT!!!!!!! Valve has made another masterpiece game! Then again, you know what to expect from the makers of "Half Life", "Team Fortress 2", and the mega-hit "Portal". This game was made for lovers of all things zombie. Basically, if "Zombieland" was a game, this would be it...times four (you'll see why later in the review). The basic premise of the game is this; a highly-evolved version of the rabies virus breaks out and turns everyone into zombies. You play as one of four survivors who are immune to the virus playing through one of four campaigns (hence the "times four, not to mention the "4" in the title). You play as either "Bill": a 'nam veteran who has been waiting for the next good war, "Francis": a biker/1%er, "Louis": a man who has worked a dead-end job all his life and was just about to quit when the breakout happened, and "Zoey": a college freshman who spent all her time loked in her dorm watching old zombie movies. All four characters play the same, but the big deciding factor is you. The game changes depending on your skill level, and trust me! NO TWO GAMES PLAY ALIKE!!!! This is in part due to the "AI Director" which changes the spawn locations of the enemies and "Specials" (I'll get to those later as well). There are four different campaigns, and while each one is different in it's own way, they all pretty much play out the same and have the same premise; Zombies have infested the town and there is a person waiting on the other end to pick up survivors. Each campaign has 3-4 "safe houses" to let you re-stock on ammo and first-aid (oh btw, ther is NO REGENERATING HEALTH!!!! you get hit enough times, you fall to the ground and someone has to save you [and you can only do that a maximum of two times]). These places are mainly used to load the next part of the level. Now there are 5 different types of special infected; "Smokers" which can grab you with their 50 ft long tounge and slash you to death, "Boomers" which are morbidly obese zombies full of bile which attracts a horde of zombies. They will either vomit on you, or explode on you if shot, "Hunters" which are like Tigger, but if he was hopped up on meth, "Witches" which are girl zombies who cry. Doesn't sound like much, but AVOID THEM IF YOU CAN!!!! If you get to close to them, they will tear you to pieces; if you shoot them and DON'T KILL THEM, they will tear you to pieces; if (and this is a BIG one!) you shine your flashlight on them, they will TEAR YOU TO BLOODY RIBBONS!!!!!!!! And then there is the "Tank"; an massive zombie which is pretty much a walking tank. You have to team up and take it down. Now anout the horde; the main thing that you have to worry about is that zombies HATE LOUD, ANNOYING, HIGH-PITCHED NOISES!!! (insert Justin Beiber joke here) Stay away from cars with flashing lights and DON'T SHOOT THEM!!!!! if you attract a horde, just unload on them. 'Nuff said. Now for the visual style. This game is beautiful in it's own way. It's not photo-realistic, but it has a wonderful dark and gritty art-style with gorgeous lighting effects. One gripe I do have is that 1) it doesn't always runn at a smooth 60FPS and 2) it's a bit too brown. But it is beautifull in it's own right and has some wonderful facial animations. The sound design is also brilliant as well. The voice acting is wonderful and the zombies really sound crazed. This game really relies on directional sound so I recommend playing with either a 5.1 channel audio system or good headphones. The gameplay is excellent. It plays pretty good by yourself, but this game trully shines in it's multiplayer. I HIGHLY recommend playing this with a friend either split-screen (a maximum of 2 players), LAN (with 4 people) or over Xbox Live. This game also has a versus mode, where one team of four playes as survivors, and one team playes as infected; and alternates from there. You can also play "survival" which is "Nazi-Zombies", times 50. The controlls are good, but CoD or Halo players will have to take some time getting used to them. So, all in all, do I reccomend this game? ABSO-F@!#N-LOUTLEY!!!! If you love zombies or FPS games in general, BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!! (p.s., if you comment "tl;dr", BAD things will happen to you).

Left 4 Dead! Awesome Game!
I bought this game for my brother-in-law for Christmas. He got an xbox360 for his birthday two years ago and hadn't bought many games for it. He doesn't like to spend money on stuff he might not like. I on the other hand have spent quite a bit of money on games for my PS2, PS3, XBOX360, and PC.So I knew he liked Black Ops 1 and 2 for the zombies so I knew this game would be something he liked. Sure enough, he loves it. I've played it before and it really is an amusing games. There's tons of different options as far as game play and this is a game has computers that actually help you when they're needed with amazing accuracy. It's almost harder to play in multiplayer with friends, even when they're great at video games. The many different types of zombies keep things interesting and the different areas you play through. The game also has different guns and bombing devices. You have to fight through hordes that can come from setting off alarms and even bumping into random cars that will go off and attracted the horde.Over all, the game play is fun and can be changed up, the graphics are pretty amazing for when this game came out and I can say and not stress enough, that this game is worth your money!Play on!

Survival Horror... with plenty of ammo
Note: This review only covers the Single Player campaign. I did not get a chance to play any of the multiplayer options. Left 4 Dead is a game that clearly encourages multiplayer play, but can be enjoyed alone. That is the perspective this review was written from. Remember that when reading this review, if you still feel like reading it now.Second Note: Left 4 Dead is not a traditional survival horror game like the first Resident Evil games. I'm using the phrase "survival horror" very loosely here. Left 4 Dead doesn't try to be scary. It just puts a gun in your hand, shows you some charging zombies, and hopes you can make the connection.Anyway, Left 4 Dead starts with an amazing intro. I mean, so amazing that the Resident Evil movies would be jealous. But any similarities with other popular titles in the FPS genre end with a good opening hook. You make up just one of four Survivors (the AI takes control of the other three) treading amongst the undead in the game's various moody environments. These environments do have the occasional creepy feel to them, especially when the sobs of a distant Witch can be heard, but for the most part it's all about action. The environments lend themselves well to creating feelings of the former and the latter depending on whether you're traversing the claustrophobic hallways of a building or running around in wide open areas that encourage running and gunning. This running and gunning, however, will only last you around five hours throughout the entirety of all four campaigns.Like some other first-person shooters, Left 4 Dead only allows you to carry two weapons at a time. The list of weapons is pretty short, only including a sub-machine gun, two kinds of shotgun, assault rifle, hunting rifle (the only weapon with a scope) and pistol. The nice thing about the pistol is that it has unlimited ammo and you can pick up a second one for dual wielding. The not nice thing about the pistol is that is always stays as your second weapon, so you can only have one of the other weapons at a time. You also get to hold on to one of either a pipe bomb or Molotov cocktail, each with their own distinction: a pipe bomb attracts zombies to it, so a charging horde can be easily distracted (and blown up), and a Molotov creates a lasting flame, briefly acting as a barrier the zombies won't cross.About the zombies, I'm just going to put this succinctly: the zombies are fun to shoot. That's really the backbone of this game, the shooting. And that's not a criticism because games are about gameplay and Left 4 Dead focuses on solid gameplay through solid gunplay. When a horde of zombies is charging at you, there's nothing like furiously squeezing the trigger with your dual pistols, laying into the undead masses with shotgun blasts, or just equipping your assault rifle or sub-machine gun and holding down the trigger while letting out a movie-like continuous yell. I know that last example sounds crazy, but when a game can bring this kind of thing out of you, you know it's a good one.Speaking of shooting zombies, the classic "Shoot them in the head" rule does not apply here. Headshots will kill them quicker, but shoot the undead anywhere and they will die... again. Believe me, when you see a charging horde, you'll be glad that's one rule you don't have to follow. The bad news about the charging horde, though, is that if they reach you, you simply won't be able to move while they're damaging you. And pushing them all off is as easy as tapping the melee button. Then again, if they killed you instantly after having overwhelmed you, that wouldn't be any fun, would it?There are four campaigns and each campaign is divided into five chapters. In the Game Of The Year Edition, all of the campaigns are unlocked from the start, so you get to choose the level you wish to dive into first. Don't worry about the story, as the story is so non-existent that you probably won't even notice any kind of progression anyway. The first chapter of a campaign begins at a starting point out in the open and ends when you close the door of a safe house. Each successive level simply has you starting in one safe house and ending in another until the last level when you board a rescue helicopter. That would be the most obvious weak point of Left 4 Dead; the fact that it foregoes any kind of storytelling in favor of mindless shooting. Seriously, there is no story whatsoever. It's just: here are the guns, there are the zombies, shoot them. In that sense, Left 4 Dead feels less like games made for today's audience, games that attempt to tell a story, and more like something you would have experienced at an arcade (any kids reading this might want to hit up Wikipedia to find out what an arcade was.) Be that as it may, what makes Left 4 Dead a great game is that it doesn't try to do too much; it does what it does and it does it very well. What it does, though, isn't very compelling past the enjoyment of shooting up hordes of zombies. So if you're looking for anything more, you'll have to look elsewhere. But if you're looking to have a quick, mindless blast with multiplayer, Left 4 Dead is a game you might want to consider, especially if you can get a few friends together to play it with you. The game is just a solid and fun experience, even if you play by yourself. As has been said, the AI takes control of the other three Survivors, allowing even lone gamers such as myself to take on the horror with a little help. And that's basically what the Left 4 Dead experience is about: survival horror... with plenty of ammo... the way it should be.

Amazing game!
This game is a very fun and intense game. This has many maps to play on 1-4 player. Left 4 dead's weapons are very nice, and I like the simple goal of the game: to get to the next safe room. The graphics are very good, and the music in the game is very good. As an extra challenge in the game you have to face bosses: boomer, hunter, tank, charger... Overall very good game and it's definitely worth the money.
