Tandy Leather Craftool� Rivet Setter 8100-00

Works as expected. I'm not a rivet person but was able to rivet some nice repairs to a nylon fanny pack that had bad stitching. Easy to use if you have a good hard surface to pound down on the rivets. I used an iron shop vise. Worked great in rounding out the rivet heads. They looked professionally done even though I know nothing of these kinds of repairs. I would recommend it.

Works well, but it is just a metal rod. It was my first time using these rivets, so I bought it. I probably had something in my tool box that could be modified for this purpose (concave end of rod).

Bought the Tandy 8056-00 anvil, 8100-00 rivet setter, and a few styles of rivets. Have never riveted anything previously, but this made it easy. If you haven't done it before, do a few test ones on scrap before. Found that a number of small taps worked much better than one solid whack. Also, keeping the rivet centered on the anvil, the rivet setter straight, and hitting it square on with the hammer seems to be important - did have a couple rivets I set a bit crooked until I noticed that.

My purse strap broke and I thought I'd have to pitch it and start searching for a new one. Then I got the idea to fix it myself. I purchased this, a rivet anvil and double-cap rivets, and my purse is good as new for a fraction of what a new purse would have cost. If you're like me and have never used a rivet setter, You Tube has handy videos showing how to use this item. Go for it and save yourself some money.

I'm unclear as to what exactly this item is supposed to do.....but it is pretty heavy-duty, so I guess it would work very well.If only I knew what to do with it! The point is, I don't know how to rivet.

This tool is very straight forward in design and utility.However, most peoplevery likely have something in the tool box, ie. a flat tipped punch,either brass or steel,that will work. The short length, however, may lend itself to more accurate control,and,the opporturnity to smash a finger or thumb.
