OWC 8TB Accelsior 4M2, Four-Slot NVMe M.2 SSD to PCIe 3.0 Expansion Card for Mac Pro (Late 2019 - Current), Mac Pro (2010-2012), and PC Towers

This is up to OWC's usual standard of quality. The build is solid. The packaging provides excess padding and all the tools you'll need, right down to the screwdrivers. The card works without installing any extra drivers. And the fanless heatsink design makes it silent - this is especially welcome, as fans are the most common failure point for add-on cards.The heatsink is a generous size, designed to cool four NVMe drives, and enough to provide extra cooling when one drive is used at a time. I purchased the driveless model and added several 8TB Sabrent NVMe drives. Although these larger Sabrent drives are known to run hot, I was only able to get the unit to thermal throttle after about 3TB of sustained writes.OWC hardware commands a premium price. But it's not excessive given the sturdy build, the generous warranty, the silent fanless design, and the Mac-first design.Of note: A SoftRAID license is included, which would install drivers if used. My emphasis on driverless design is on the card itself. If this is used to provide four independent drives or is only used with macOS built in software RAID support, no additional software or drivers are needed. Although I appreciate the SoftRAID add on, I choose to avoid add-on drivers in order to avoid delays or uncertainty around macOS updates.

We've got the 8TB model installed in a 2019 Mac Pro. We use it in RAID 5 to capture (8) ProRes 422 Cameras at 1080, 30. We're able to write massive amounts of data without having to think about speed or capacity too much. As you'd expect, running different levels of RAID causes certain slow downs with the overall drive speed, but that is to be expected with RAID. RAID 5 gives us the speeds pictured, which is still phenomenal for our needs. When the drives are in RAID 0 we were able to get upwards of 6000MBps read/write. This drive is great and has been reliable as we've used it over the past 4 months. The SoftRaid application that comes with the drive is great and has done everything we've needed, albeit a little finicky to install with the security restrictions Apple puts in place. Highly recommended overall.

Just installed this card into a Mac Pro 7,1 using 2x 1TB Samsung 970 Evo drives.Drives were initialized using Softraid that comes with it (download and use the serial number on the card) and configured as Raid 0.I need these for some work on full 4K Alexa LF raw files (converted to 16bit EXRs via Resolve).So far so good.Aja test says it can read/write about 50fps.I will update if anything goes wrong or changes.

have the card installed with 4x Seagate m.2 SSD, at first everything is fine, but after several months of usage, I started experiencing drive slow down, the write speed went down to as low as 9mb/sec! when that happens, I had to restart the computer to get it back to the normal 3000-4000mb/sec drive speed.my computer is a 2019 mac pro

I wanted to run this as my primary boot device and it wasn't until I contacted OWC support that I learned that you can't boot from this device.

Great product although, the metal outside bracket is blue and not silver. Its not a big deal but, I like my computer parts to match. They should change the product image and description.

This card works out of the box with no trouble in my 2019 Mac Pro. I’d previously had two, yes two, Sonnett cards, neither of which worked properly.Amazon were very good about.When the OWC replacement came I was very impressed with the build quality. It feels sturdy. Having remortgaged the house to buy my new machine, it seemed fitting to put install something with this build quality rather than the naked board of the Sonnet.I’ve installed x4 evo pro drives, all of which went in perfectly. I used the Macs built in raid manager, and hey presto, I’ve got a mega fast (it really is too) 4TB drive for all my video editing.Avoid the competition, just get this.

Have 4 M2s in raid 0. Getting around 5Gbps on Mac Pro. Very happy.
