Batteries were dead.
This device seems OK. It works as described. It's somewhat difficult to get to to stay in the correct position on your ear. Biggest trouble was dead batteries -- the device worked intermittently for a few days and then died completely. So, you should add the cost of 3 AG3 batteries to the cost of this device, plus the cost of a small Phillips screwdriver if you don't have one already. Then too, the device is somewhat hard to disassemble, even after you take the screw out. A helper and I both thought it had been welded or glued shut. There are radar detectors which are have a "keep the driver awake" feature. They are much more expensive than this little thing, but safer too: what if you doze off without nodding your head? I have a homemade version of the radar detector feature (having majored in electrical engineering), so actually I'll be driving with both systems to keep me awake .... :)Remember: the best system is a bed and 3 hours of sleep. Or just pull over and doze for 20-30 minutes at a convenience store or rest stop, that does me a lot of good....

Just like the wake-up stick by your Zen master
This is a very simple and cheaply made product but surprisingly effective. Yes it does really surprises you. I don't use this for driving. I use this for my meditation, to keep myself staying on the very long, narrow, and winding path to enlightenment. Actually, not sure if this really helps my meditation but it's almost embarrassing/humbling to know how many times I get startle awoken by this device in one sitting. It's really LOUD so it really startles me awake and for a moment I always have no idea where I am, what I am doing and why I was awoken. Well, well...

its very effective ...
i tried using it last week for a five hour travel at night and when i got sleepy while driving the nap alert make annoying sound straight to my ears and woke me up just when my head starts to lower and i'm about to sleep. i highly recommend it for those who are driving for long hours and for those who works in a graveyard shift. the only thing is when it's on your ears you should be straight focus on the road beacuse everytime you try to reach and grab for something and move your head at a certain angle the nap alert sounds on.

Sleeping in bed instead of the chair.
This DriveAlert product is fabulous!!! I had tried everything imaginable to keep my elderly mothers head from falling forward and throwing out her neck adjustment when she inevitably dozes off to sleep in front of the T.V. each evening. This neat little unit alerts her to the fact that she indeed is dozing off again and keeps her awake. Prior to this, she would argue that she never falls asleep sitting up. Now she knows better and sleeps better during the night in bed as she isn't napping all evening.I did have trouble with her little ears being unable to hold it without falling off. So I took one of her old sets of glasses, punched out the lenses, and electrical taped it to the frame infront of her right ear. Now all she has to do is turn it on and put on her old frames.

Noisy little thing... just what I'd hoped for
Very noisy. Good luck sleeping with this on.You have to position it correctly to get it to go off at the right time. Regardless of how you position it, hard braking will trip the gravity switch and it will alarm at you. It's... well, alarming at first, because it seems counterintuitive that it should go off when your head is held up. Once you get used to that you'll appreciate that it's doing its job.

Do not buy this product
This is a terrible product. I'd have given it zero stars, but that's not an option.(1) Many of them arrive in non-working condition. We ordered 2, and one worked and one didn't. Read the other reviews if you don't believe me. (2) It is not adjustable, and either doesn't fit one's head (for the men, generally), or is so large it slides off (on women, generally). It is difficult or impossible to wear with glasses. (3) Worst of all, there is no way to replace the battery, so if you do get one that works, it is effectively a disposable product, something that was NOT disclosed in the product description (in fact, most of the descriptions state that it takes an A13 "button" battery). (4) And good luck getting rid of it: it contains a glass mercury switch with a big blob of mercury in it.Do not buy this product.

Just be careful not to lose it in the car! A good idea!
ok, my wife uses these to stay awake in the car after a hard day at work or on long trips. I never remember i have one. i guess they should be like set belts and beep when you get in the vehicle. They are worth a try unless you are like me.

Great Product!
I have this unit in our two cars and motor home! I even had two sets shipped to a good friend who travels weekly from NJ to Ohio! When travelling at 60 mph, one consumes 90 ft/sec (equiv to a 9 story building) ... so the hazards of dozing for even a few seconds are enormous! Lane excursions are responsible for over 4 Billion dollars in damage as well as countless injuries, including fatalities every year. I drove tractor trailers professionally and have personally witnessed enough tragedy to recommend this safety device to anyone who drives. The cost is amazingly low too! This is an excellent product!
