NumiOrganic Tea Aged Earl Grey, 18 Count Box of Tea Bags (Pack of 6), Black Tea

I was never a big fan of earl grey teas before I tried Numi's Earl Greys, in both decaf and regular, which came in their assorted box: http://www.amazon.com/Numi-Organic-Collection-Assorted-18-Count/dp/B00822Y04U/ref=sr_1_1?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1391016844&sr=1-1&keywords=numi+assorted I told my mother she could have them both (because she does enjoy earl grey teas), and when she made a cup of the decaf, she ran to let me have a whiff and a sip. I have to tell you that that cup was the most incredible cup of earl grey tea I had ever known (and it was the decaf, mind you). The aroma of this tea is so amazing, perfumed as it is with the most vibrant bergamot and botanicals. The base tea leaf also shines through in a way that foods that contain fig leaf, for example, maintain that figgy flavor (of course this tea does not contain fig leaves--I am just making a comparison with another leaf whose presence is always obvious). The taste is layered and beautiful, and not at all bitter, as I had found other earl grey teas to be. The decaf is amazing even on its own, and the regular I have been able to enjoy with a bit of milk and honey. I enjoy both thoroughly, and HIGHLY recommend them. They are occasionally available here in packs of 3, which I recommend you to keep your eye out for.

This is my favorite tea to make sun tea. One tea bag will flavor a 2 quart Ball jar I make sun tea in. I love the flavor of black tea. I put a spoonful of organic crystalized ginger in the tea when I make it and it is wonderful. Good price too.

This is not the same tea as what you can find in a retail store. I was a bit suspicious of the first cup I had of this tea, it seemed a little different. So I went to the market and bought a box off the shelf (for about an extra dollar,) and brought it home to compare. First clue, the graphics on the box are slightly different. But then I made two cups, one from each source, for a side by side comparison. The tea from the store is the delicious rich tea that I know and love. The tea from amazon is not. I immediately could tell the difference just in the aroma alone. The retail tea had a lovely bergamot fragrance. The amazon tea: not so much. Also the flavor is off from the original, it lacks the depth and complexity of the original and even has a hint of a somewhat dusty quality. So, I don’t know if this is a knockoff, or a different formula, or a flawed batch, or if it’s just old expired tea. But there’s something definitely off about it. It’s still tea, but it’s not the same as what you have come to expect if you buy this in the store.

I found Numi Organic Defac Earl Grey a little to delicate for my taste, but I have to admit that i added one teaspoon for sugar & one of fat-free half & half. Nimi suggests you steep it for 4 or 5 min. but regardless of how long i steeped it, it was to mild & I couldn't taste the bergamot (orange) flavor. On the other hand if you enjoy an extremely mild, delicate tea & you don't add milk or sugar this may be just right for you. The primary thing i liked about this tea is that it is certified Fair Trade so you can reasonably believe that the people producing it are getting a fair wage. Secondarily the tea is also USDA Certified Organic which is usually a plus.

The thing that made me most sad about quitting caffeine was having to give up my Earl Grey tea. Then it dawned on me that perhaps there were decaf versions out there! I tried many, many varieties before finding the NUMI tea version on Amazon. This is by far the most flavorful decaf earl grey I have had. It's so fragrant. And I can now drink it several times a day, all hours of the day, because it's decaf! Bonus stars for NUMI for using the CO2 decaffeination method.

This is so so delicious. The bergamot flavor is beautiful, not too strong or overpowering as in some of the Earl Grays. And the fact this is organic and very pure and from a company with fair trade practices is so nice too.
