41st Edition Blue Book of Gun Values

When my dad died, my Mom asked me to sell off most of his guns. I bought this book to help figure out how much to ask for each one. The book covers just about every gun you can think of and lists pricing for all of them. What I learned, however, is that people were often willing to pay considerably more for the guns than the prices shown in this book. That might have been because the book was a year old when I was using it; maybe gun prices had increased significantly in that year. I would suggest using this book, but also looking at various used gun sites to see what comparable guns are selling for, before setting your price. As a side note, I learned from this book that one gun my dad had was actually worth quite a bit, and I would never have guessed it.

Gift for my husband. Not an easy resource to use. The info is there in some cases, but is not easily found. (Note: I am a librarian with extensive training on resources and their use). An easier method would be to purchase the reference guide for your particular brand.

Product arrived promptly. Could have been better protected for shipping. Arrived in a box much larger than the book with nothing to keep it from tumbling around inside. The guide provides tons of information but could use a better indexing to help locate the price being sought. A more complete explanation of how to evaluate condition would be nice too. There are photo illustrations of different conditions but not a good explanation of how one facet of condition affects the ratings. Values stated don't seem to change much from year to year so anew guide every 4-5 years seems current enough.

I try to get one of these every few years. For items I am familiar with I find the values listed herein are the closest ever published. It is also a great reference of data on lesser known guns. Buy it!

This is the only book that has realistic values. The information about how to distinguish between the variations of the same models, years of manufacture, # in production runs etc. is outstanding. Grading information is superb. This book is expensive compared to others, but it's a real value. I used these daily during my career in the retail firearms business. I'm long retired now. I bought this latest edition to help me price guns from my personal collection that I'm selling.

I have been using Blue Book for decades, It a wealth of information.

This large book would have been better with pictures. But if pictures were added, it would probably require two volumes. I may need to add another book with pictures as a supplement.

I found many inconsistencies with BBGV. Sometimes they reference an imported firearm by the manufacturer and other times they list them by the importer. Military firearms may be listed under the country or with the arsenal that made it. One example that is close to home is the M1903 is listed under "S" for Springfield Armory (government armory) but the M1 Rifle (Garand)- also made by Springfield Armory- is listed under "U" for US weapons. (It gets harder when dealing with foreign countries. Also, a lot of weapons they don't bother to list and just direct you to their overflow website, which is understandable since you can't list them all, but they want you to pay a separate fee for items they couldn't fit.
