Great Movie--Super Soundtrack for Repeat Listening
First, I'm not a professional reviewer by a long shot. That said, I do have things to share about a soundtrack I love.I love the movie, and I love the soundtrack. Of all five Pirates movie soundtracks, this is the first and the one that I will always remember for the distinctive themes that were introduced and continue to be heard with variations in the later films. This and the soundtrack from "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" are my favorite Pirates soundtracks and I can listen to them over and over.Notable tracks:1: Fog Bound - Starts with a smooth yet lilting tune which appears again within Track 6. I couldn't get this one out of my head, even tried whistling or humming it--playful but "pirate-y." This is followed by a dark melody of peril and dread, lightening near the end to transition into2: The Medallion Calls - Brief transition that leads into what the overarching, proud theme of the Pirates movies (Or is it Captain Jack Sparrow's theme? IMO, it should be). With French horns, brass, and strings abounding with great harmonies, I can't imagine who wouldn't love this theme!!! The music is majestic and yet can be varied to be sly, foreboding, forbidding, or sad. Great theme! Can be heard again within Tracks 3 and 4.5 & 10: Swords Crossed, To the Pirate's Cave, respectively - Driving theme introduced in Track 5 and variation of it in Track 10. Exciting and macabre and embodies the crew of the Pearl.6: Walk the Plank - I love the whimsy within this track. Playful peril?7: Barbossa is Hungry - Barbossa is a cool and scary dude...like him and/or hate him at the same time--he's very distinctive. A variation on the main theme is included within this driving, powerful track.8: Blood Ritual - Slow and beautiful, then relentlessly driving. It sounds like a new theme mingled with or a variation on the main theme. Love this one.9: Moonlight Serenade - Same theme, different feel and emotion.11: Skull and Crossbones - Combines and overlays themes. Love this one.12: Bootstrap's Bootstraps - Grim, urgent, exciting, then returns to main theme. Love it.13: Underwater March - A little eerie, with a very cool return to the main theme and then a lovely almost romantic feel, and finally the actual march underwater by the crew of the Pearl (creepy-ish).14: One Last Shot - Love the beginning of this track - whimsical and pirate-y! Very memorable. Transitions to a romantic theme and then the main theme. There is a triumphal finale feel to this track. Gives me goosebumps and a big smile.15: He's a Pirate - I'm not sure this theme is for Captain Jack or for Will, or for all pirates. Or maybe it is named for a line spoken in the movie. It just plain fits and completes the movie.Highly recommended, especially if you love themed music, or if you enjoy listening to music without the interruption of lyrics, as I often do.

A Couple of Good Songs
If you want background music to fill your space with pirate ambiance, this is the one. If you want an album to listen to for song after song of classic music, maybe not. I found the album to contain the one of two classic Pirates tunes which is what I would have expected, however the remainder of the album is filled with snippets of small sound bites that accompany the plot which can be disjointed and fragmentary when listened to straight through. I have many soundtracks that I can listen to that phonically walk me through the movie, but this isn't one of them. That's not to say it isn't good music, just not one that is as meaningful when listened to from beginning to end. Savvy?

One of the best out there
One of the most entertaining and flawless film soundtracks out there. An enjoyable listen as a stand-alone experience, as the thematic material takes you back to moments from the film. The 2nd and 3rd films in the series have soundtracks that are equally as engaging and enjoyable. (The 4th lost the charm of its predecessors on many levels.) Hans Zimmer again shines, only this time with the assistance of his friend and colleague (read up on his collaboration with Klaus Badelt if you are curious). If you enjoyed the film, or even just like the ride in Orlando, then I would recommend this one.

Doesn't quite live up to the movie
I LOVED this movie. I loved it so much that I wanted to have my very own swashbuckling soundtrack. For swashbuckling, this soundtrack does not disappoint. The music is unique and you find yourself reliving the film all over again. When I watched the movie, I found that the music complemented the action perfectly and, in fact, even enhanced it.On its own, the soundtrack is still impressive, but I found it slightly repetitive. My husband remarked that he felt like we were listening to the same song over and over again. My other disappointment was that there was no rendition of the pirate's song ("Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me..."). I guess I was naively hoping for some full-cast version of the song.Still, the soundtrack brings back great memories of the movie and the excitement of a more romantic time.

Awesome score for an awesome film!
When I bought the Pirates of the Caribbean DVD despite not having seen it, I feared disappointment despite the recommendations of friends. Boy, was I wrong! The score by relative unknown Klaus Bedelt complements the movie's action almost to perfection. It does seem to have borrowed a bit from Zimmer's score for 'Gladiator', but has its own spectacular moments, including 'The Medallion Calls' as pirate Capt. Sparrow sails his near-sunken boat into a British port from atop a mast, and 'To The Pirates' Cave!' when Elizabeth escapes from the wily Barbossa into the hands of a living-dead crew of skeletons that man the Black Pearl. This is a score that will make a great addition to the collection of anyone who loves movie soundtracks.

Best music of all the "Pirate" movies
The music is rollicking fun, brilliant with vivid use of motifs and abrupt shifts. This is 100% instrumental, there are no lyrics. I loved that because I use the music for inspiration - and I mean you do want to get crazy and dance to this. Makes the heart pound. Each selection has rhythmic changes I never noticed during the movie itself. The only slight negative to this CD is that it is a true soundtrack, not a collection of songs such as you might get from say a musical like The Sound of Music. That means the works all lead straight into the next one, which means having your mp3 player on shuffle makes a mess of it. Play it straight through for the best effect.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of...Ahem.
I would say that the thing that really makes a good movie a great movie is the music to go with it. If the soundtrack is rubbish you wont enjoy the film so much. Just look at Star Wars and E.T-This music is known and loved throughout the world because its just so darn good!Klaus Badelt's rollicking, rousing soundtrack to 'Pirates of the Caribbean' is the perfect partner to the hilarious film itself. Apart from the fact it's typically Piraty {if there is such a word...}with lots of rowdy crashes, deep foghorn-like bass notes and a hint of the songs of the seadogs {The drunken sailor?' etc.} The timing of each cymbal crash and drum beat is perfectly in time with the cannons fireing and the swords meeting. The best example of this is the fight between Jack Sparrow and Will Turner in the Smithy. Every sword crossed, every punch, hit and lunge, has a 'sound' to go with it. As the pace quickens the music quickens, and the opposite occurs when it slows. There is certain music to go with Barbossa's Captain Hook sequence, Will and Jacks move with and upturned rowing boat {Watch it.. you'll understand} and even Elizabeth collapsing into the sea 50ft below has its own little piece. It wasn't the Actors that kept time with the music either, the orchestra and the Conductor had to keep time with them! Cool!To conclude, you definitely get your money's worth, it's catchy, fun and interesting, and it sticks in your head. Which isn't so good...If i had one thing to complain about {and its really very small} it that the songs run into each other so you can't tell where you are in the CD. But no matter. Its a good all rounder-if you liked the film, get the soundtrack!

Pirates of the Carribean Soundtrack Review
This is a good score and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Zimmer's work on the Gladiator soundtracks. It has very powerful 'swashbuckling' motifs that run through nearly every track and is very well produced. My only criticism is that too many synthesised instruments are used. I sincerely hope that we are not witnessing a trend to come of dispensing with the full orchestra and replacing it with samplers and keyboards. The effect is noticeable; the percussion often sounds hollow, and sometimes sounds are distorted in an effort to boost its presence. The synthesised instruments in Gladiator are barely noticeable, and in fact are probably only apparent if you are very famililar with their sounds. In the case of this soundtrack however, I'm afraid that their presence is perceptible, and may have been seriously detrimental were the score not otherwise excellent. One caveat; I noticed this score being likened to Lord Of The Rings. I am afraid to say that this is wrong. A comparison with Gladiator might withstand scrutiny, but this soundtrack entirely lacks the dynamic subtely and muscial variation of Lord Of The Rings. A simple comparison of the films should clarify this!In conclusion, if you enjoyed the Gladiator score, in particular Zimmer's driving 'Gladiator Waltz', then you will not be dissappointed. If, on the other hand, you prefered Lisa Gerrard's lilting solos or those of Enya in Lord Of The Rings, this soundtrack is unlikely to satisfy. Overall however, I must confess it is a very well produced score.

Original - not pirated
This captures the film quiet well, although there are only three or four stand out tunes. There are a couple of sudden jolt moments on the soundtrack which may make you jump if you are thinking absentmindedly whilst listening. All the tracks are orchestral, which I like. Some soundtracks have a grunge metal song stuck in the middle which ruins the overall theme of an album, but not this one.

Brilliant!
I absolutely love this cd. And what's more, my children aged 11 , 10 and 5 all absolutely love it too. Something we can all enjoy in the car! All the powerful, memorable tunes from the movie that stick in your head forever after hearing them a few times. And as if that wasn't enough, my 10 year old daughter has spent half of her Easter hols making up dances to it! The best value holiday entertainment I've ever bought. I'd be amazed if anyone who has seen the movie did not think this was excellent value for money.

The more you listen the better it gets
I bought it mainly for from the main theme (He's a Pirate). As it's a soundtrack, there are recurring themes throughout, but there is a wide variety of pace and all the tracks are so well orchestrated (IMHO). Of all the POTC soundtracks, this one is the most consistently good throughout.

Fantastc and Exciting
It was the musical score of the film that most impressed me. The film is worth watching just for the experience of the music alone. My great love is classical music, especially opera. Film scores do not hold the same interest. However Klaus Badelt's score for Pirates of the Caribbean is an exception. The recording is of the original soundtrack and fabulous.
