Works Well where others Fail
This has got to be the best dog tooth paste I have used for my 2 Maltese. Toy breeds are notoriously known to be sensitive to bad dental hygiene and through forgetting to brush their teeth daily with (other brand stuff) they ended up getting thick layers of tartar. This toothpaste was a miracle, and while it doesn't outright make the tartar fall off, what it does is weakens the bond to the tooth/teeth which you can easily and effortlessly pry off with a stainless steel dental pick (the kind your dentist uses on you). We've tried using the dental pick when we used other brand toothpastes (Virbac CET, Sentry Petrodex) but it's like chipping off cement. With Petsmile toothpaste, you only need make sure it makes surface contact, no abrasive brushing required. The active ingredient is Calprox which is used in whitening toothpastes for humans as well (coincidentally, I tried their people version Supersmile and it whitens my teeth several shades after just 1 week, to which Crest Whitening 90% did nothing for over 5 years). Essentially it helps re-mineralize teeth and is antimicrobial in nature. If you leave it out, especially the people version, you will notice how it calcifies.I can't vouch for big dogs but you can recover your small breed's teeth even with bad tartar to pristine white with consistent brushing and careful use of a dental pick (only if they have tartar, after that just maintenance with brushing). All this without having to rely on a VET and pay VET bills. Be willing to put in a little effort and your furry family members will have improved quality of life again!

Dog Breath No More
I have been using this paste daily on my two large senior dogs for about 9 months and am on my 5th tube. After the first week of use the dog breath odor was gone from both dogs. After 9 months of use most but not all staining is gone and the teeth are white. The instructions say to wipe the paste on the dogs teeth with an applicator but I use a soft adult toothbrush. The dogs like the taste and look forward to having their teeth brushed with this paste. Brushing two dogs teeth daily a tube of paste lasts about 6 weeks. Although the cost of this paste is high, it is worth the money because it works well. At my last vet visit the veterinarian was very impressed by the condition of my dogs teeth and gums. The only down side of this paste besides cost is that the ingredients tend to separate after sitting for a while, especially a new tube of paste. To remedy this, before each use I shake the tube vigorously and kneed until the ingredients are mixed. I also found that if you cut open the bottom of the tube when you think the tube is empty you will find there are several more brushings worth of paste stuck to the inside of the tube.

I love that all you have to do is get this ...
I love that all you have to do is get this toothpaste on your pet's back teeth, you don't have to actually brush each tooth. We have an older cat and the vet suggested stepping up her dental care to avoid having to do a dental exam under anesthesia, so we got this and one of the small pet toothbrushes on Amazon (can't remember which exact one, but they're kind of all the same and as this toothpaste is enzymatic the brush or application method you use isn't super important). Callie (the cat) really likes the brush, we got her used to it slowly. First you can just hold it out to your cat without toothpaste on it and letting them brush their cheeks on it, and eventually when they're relaxed you can start moving the brush a bit and moving it closer to their mouth and most cats will probably start to chew a bit on it anyways. Once their used to the brush you can add this toothpaste. Our cat doesn't love the taste of the paste, and it only comes in the one flavor (beef) which is why I docked a star. But she lets us get the brush in her mouth and scrub a bit. Once you get it on their back teeth, the tongue movement will actually get the toothpaste everywhere it needs to go. So you don't need to even use a brush at all if your pet won't tolerate it. You can use your finger to smear it in there real quick, or one of the finger brushes, etc. This toothpaste is pretty expensive compared to other options and compared to human toothpaste, but based on the ingredients it is definitely the safest, and you only need such a small amount so it will last for a very long time. Some of the cheaper ones on Amazon are NOT pet safe, and neither is human toothpaste. This is also the brand many vets use in the office. Some other things you can do to improve dental health in cats is to give them crunchy treats/food (wet food is better for nutrition usually, but dry food occasionally or crunchy treats are good for scraping plaque and stimulating their gums), make sure they have access to fresh water, and give them toys that have different textures, especially netting, around them.

This toothpaste actually works.
I love this toothpaste. It keeps my dogs’ teeth healthy and even helps get rid of existing plaque. My vet recommended it. I had previously used a chain store brand and didn’t see much improvement in the plaque build up on my dogs’ teeth. I ordered Petsmile and after a week of daily use, my pets smiles returned to healthy smiles. I’ve now ordered it twice because it’s the only toothpaste that actually works. This is seriously the best pet toothpaste there is. All you have to do is apply it. No brushing needed. I brush once a week for good measure and apply this alone on the other days. Wonderful product!
