Confessions of a Corporate Trainer: An Insider Tells All

A Great Fun Read for Any Training Professional
As a "department of one" or "lone wolf" trainer myself, the experiences shared in this book by both the author and other shared anecdotes by long time training professionals make me feel so much better. Almost normal, even. I know these classroom hiccups happen from time-to-time, but as a lone-wolf I have nobody to share these things with and it really does fill a great void in what I've been looking for in a book. Remember, just because your training session isn't going as planned, it doesn't mean you can't overcome the challenges in front of you. This book is more than a confessional as it does teach (or reinforce) some great methods to use in the classroom as a facilitator. The author does a great job bringing up deliberate practice strategies such as spaced learning and interleaving which are great for helping the learner retain information. We are currently looking to expand our training department this year (gasp!) and I'll definitely be passing this one along to the new team members.

Making sense out of how to learn and how to teach!
Although I'm not a trainer, I found this book very interesting! I loved how the author used his years of experience, and humor, to explain how the learning process works and how to make learning stick, which is a benefit to employers and their employees. Actually, it is a benefit to anyone learning a new skill or to a teacher/instructor teaching others new skills. I also enjoyed and appreciate the author's Insider Tips! I highly recommend this book!

Real Talk
It’s a book that lifts the veil (and the hubris) off the training world. Jonathan has always shown a commitment to learner-centric training, and he’s provided us a book that is refreshingly practical and real. I’m in the L&D field, but I think the book can support any teacher, trainer, leader that hopes to develop others.

Not For Me
I couldn’t get more than a few pages into this book due to the terrible editing. I’m a training professional, and hoped this would be a fun, quirky read to cheer me up, but the choppy, inexperienced writing style made it impossible for me to continue on - it made me not believe in the author’s experience. This one is headed back to the warehouse.

I can’t teach you anything but I can show you how to learn !
This is a book for anyone that wants to or is in any form of education. Teachers, parents, and L&D professionals alike will benefit from this. This is written in a great voice by Jonathan: he’s funny yet targeted. There are great resources for other readings and science based evidence.Great read. Learned a ton!
