A Child's Garden of Verses

A Child's Garden of Verses is a childhood staple that should be in every child's home library. I purchased the hardback illustrated by Gyo Fujikawa, one of my favorite children's illustrators. The book is large and the illustrations are charming. There are a variety of full color and black and white illustrations. The poor reviews for the paperback version of this book made me nervous, but don't worry about ordering this hardbound Gyo Fujikawa illustrated edition. I ordered it for my niece's birthday and can't wait to give it to her! My own kids are begging to read it before it gets gifted :)

This book was purchased as a gift for the children of my neighbor's family as I neededt to find a good home for many old books of my now grown children. This book was one of several I was unable to part with, so I was thankful to have received it in like new condition. The pages were not even yellowed with time, as mine is! I was so thrilled to be able to give this beautiful book to my neighbor for her precious grandchildren for their parents to read to them as if it were brand new, to hear the wonderful message of its lovely poems and delight in the sensitive renderings of ithe artist for the very first time in their sweet lives! A total winner!!!!

In times of distress and chaos, I found myself returning to this virtual garden for joy and calm. And like magic, it frees me up from the day to day worries.

We love this book, this illustrator in particular. As a preschooler and early elementary age child we read this book over and over and over. I nearly had a mural done with 'the swing' written on her wall. So now with baby brother in that phase of reading books repeatedly I knew we needed to get this book for him to open him up to great literature. This and A. A. Milne are my top wires for this age. Sweet, simple and engaging.

This book is so stinking cute!! I didn't know the book personally, but my grandma asked me to find it for her to order for her great-grandchildren, and when it came in she was so pleased with it; it was exactly what she was looking for. I read quite a few of the poems to my 3-year-old nephew and they are just so cute! They are old-school, obviously (it was first published in 1885), but very sweet and simple, and are accompanied by very neat illustrations; it held his attention for quite some time. Would definitely recommend!!

The layout and illustrations in the book are wonderful. The pages are simple enough not to overwhelm the young reader, but the illustrations call him on to read more and more. We are really enjoying this book. It's a great first exposure to excellent poetry.

My kids love this book! We had a non-illustrated version but thay didn’t hold their attention. We opened this & read the first 70 pages right away. We only stopped to go to school. They wanted to keep reading.

This is a beautifully written & illustrated book that I gave to my adult literacy student, & she loves it.

I bought this as a christening present for a one-year old who loves being read to but who obviously has a very short attention span at the moment! This is a beautiful book and one that will grow with her. Can highly recommend this version of a book that I had myself as a child and loved.

I was given this book as a child and now that I am a grandparent have bought it so that we can read it to our grandchildren. It deals with what are timeless elements in early childhood which would otherwise never be mentioned or ignored in the rush to the electronic distractions that have taken over 'modern' life.This particular edition is beautifully produced and illustratedDavid Allan

This book was recommended through some home schooling resources.We are pleased with the content, style, images and presentation.Robert Louis Stevenson has done an excellent job in word choice andtheme. Gyo Fujikawa is the artist who has illustrated the book andthe images of the children are so naive and sweet. I bought this edition because it is the only hardback edition available and has many pictures in it. It contains 61 poems but the original had a few more. I think these have been left out due to political correctness which is a shame.

So pleased with this beautifully illustrated classic book of children's poems. Like other purchasers, I had this book as a child and am now buying it for my granddaughter. I ordered this on Saturday evening and it was here on Sunday morning. Doesn't get much better than that!!

Me and my daughters had a copy of this lovely book as children. Now I have just bought one for my granddaughter. A must have for every child!!

Had this book as a child some 65 years ago. This modern version brought many happy memories back to me

Reminded me of my mother who is now 94 reading them to me. Now have it for my first grandchild.
