Cutlers Cutlery Rivets 5/16" x 5/8" Knife Making Handle Pins- Brass - 10 Sets

Purchased to repair a chef's knife -- these actually worked OK. Two rivets had come loose from a 1970's unbranded chef's knife made in Taiwan. The handle had worked its way loose, and I was worried about filth and contaminants building up under the handle. I needed to saw through the center rivet with a hacksaw blade. The bottom rivet was still attach solidly, so I let it be, rotating the two sides out of the way to clean and sand (320 grit) the rust off the stainless tang of the blade. After cleaning and allowing to dry thoroughly, I reassembled the handle, and inserted the rivet pieces. I used a C-Clamp to set the rivets, before hammering them home. In retrospect, I should have used my small anvil, but the concrete garage floor worked OK. Bottom rivet is OEM.

These pins have a nice look. Really tight fit between pieces. The tightness requires care to prevent bending.

It was the right size, and the pieces are strong. I was able to repair my butcher knife handle in a few minutes time. I would recommend this product.

It is important to verify length. If the rivet is too long it won't tighten the handle and they don't come apart once installation started. You have to cut them or drill them out and start over. The rivets can be cut to shorten them. If you haven't used cutlery rivets before it would be good to watch a video on their use.
