it is a lovely tool
This is a very nice looking thermometer .. its reading is accurate comparing to other analog thermometers I have. I almost use it every where at my home; to figure out drinks temperature before | give them to my children, room temperature, fridge and freezer temperature, to find out the source of cold drafts and leaks from windows and doors. It is very practical. However, the only thing that disappointed me is; at AMAZON site it says that this thermometer is made at "Cook Islands", but when I received it , it does not say anything about the origin of its manufacturing country.

Made taking termperature a breeze. You have to add 0.5 C to the displayed temparature for an accurate reading. Can be converted to celcius. I wish it had the option of muting the loud beep sound it makes when taking the temperature so that i can take it when the baby is sleeping without risking that she wakes up.

A Lesson in Precision vs. Accuracy
Both my wife and I got a reading somewhat below accepted body temp. Neither of us was ill or did we take anything that would lower our core temp. My real life job involves research and statistics, I thought this would be a great way to demonstrate precision vs. accuracy. Fortunately we had some family and friends over later that day, so there was enough of a sample to conduct a proper study. Before the football game (Fly, Eagles Fly!) and the subsequent cold beers and hot pizza, we took the temps of five adults three times each. We used a glass oral thermometer and the Instaread, that's 15 readings for each instrument. We followed the directions on the Instaread to ensure consistent usage. The glass thermometer was cleaned, allowed to cool, and 'shook down' between readings. I plugged the numbers into Graph Pad Quick Calc (http://www.graphpad.com/quickcalcs/ttest1.cfm). Here's the results:Oral Thermometer; Mean-=98.14; SD=0.35. Insta Read; Mean=95.59, SD=0.75. The P value was less than 0.0001. This is a statistically significant difference. The results from both measures were precise, meaning each device, looked at by itself, repeated consistently over the sample. But if the oral thermometer (and accepted human body temp) is the reference standard, the Insta Read is not accurate. I guess if you add a 'fudge factor' of about +2.5 you can tell if somebody has a fever. If you rely on the readings of the device to determine fever, you should confirm by another method such as, my wife putting her hand on our kids forehead and announcing "You have no fever, get to school"!EDIT 12/1: While thinking about this, I realized that two stars is a bit harsh. Added a star for two reasons. (1). The device was not defective or poorly produced. The construction is quality. (2). We did another test with another brand. The findings were consistent with this one. I guess the only way you can have precesion and accuracy is to use either a regular oral thermometer or pay a few hundred bucks for a hospital grade non-contact thermometer. There is no free lunch.

It works well enough but it looks and feels like a home use thermometer
It works well enough but it looks and feels like a home use thermometer. Absolutely nothing wrong with it but if you need more precision, consider a more professional model.

4…so I guess these need better quality control before going to the market
I ordered 2 of these and both show a lower temperature than the old fashioned thermometer. Side by side, it can show 96.1 and the old fashioned thermometer will show 98.4…so I guess these need better quality control before going to the market.

Works Well-Easy to Use
The unit works well and it is easy to use. It does seem to read a little low for human body temperature for some reason. Strangely, it seems you overcome that by aiming the gun at the inside of your mouth to get the correct temperature.

Not worth the money
I guess it works ok, the temps fluctuate so you have to do multiple readings. I got this so I wouldn't have to fight my son to take his temperature but I'd rather use an oral everyday thermometer rather then this
