Perfect for heating elements

Worked exactly as described for removal of hot water heating elements.

A little thin

when I used it for regular, non rusted heating elements, it worked perfectly. I will need a socket and an impact to get the rusted ones out

Value for the money absolutely. Two tools and one.

I read a review that was kind of iffy, mine looks outstanding. Great quality. Two different sizes. Couldn’t ask for more. Thank you.

Nice idea as an all-in-one, but...

The virtue of this tool is it is double-ended, so it allows for pulling both the heater element and drain plug. Because of its thin wall construction, the 1-1/2" end has no trouble passing through the rather small water heater jacket hole.A couple things I did NOT like about this double ended 'socket'...1) The 1-1/2" side split on first application of torque, and I wasnt even trying hard to bust the heater element loose yet. This ruined the tool. The gauge of steel it is constructed of is so thin and the shaping process mandrel to make the socket appears to leave the tool with stress fractures where it will fail. I ended up taking it home and later mig welding the split and each corner of the flats, then grinding the beads down so it would still fit throught the access port.2) The socket body is a bit too short. You have to run a rod (not included) through the hole at either end, to apply torque. You really need a rod or philips screwdriver shaft that is at least 6mm diameter and about a foot long, but then as you try to grip the rod, it is so close to the water heater gas valve, vent and RV skin, that you risk skinning your knuckles as you bust the bung loose. Often times this is a sudden release so unless you wear gloves, you may shed some blood for this task.I ended up buying a 1-1/2" x 3/4" drive $ocket, but then I had to either grind the socket OD down, or cut the water heater's shroud opening slightly (about 1/8" larger diameter) to fit.Since I need to pull the drain plug often, I will be restoring this tool by welding an outer beadband around the split socket's end to repair and reinforce it. Grinding/welding, etc is far beyond most folks. But as this item is out of the bag new, you cannot count on it working -even once. One star for the poor construction, plus one star for the idea. Make it an inch longer and of 10 gauge steel plus a rod and it would be a 5 star winner and worth 12 bucks.A bonafide pair of sockets, extension and ratchet costs a lot more than this wiz-bang. Dont ask how I know.

Good for the heating element

Worked getting heating element out on my suburban water heater a socket was far to thick to get to the element , it’s easy to use just put a screw drive in it and turn

You may still need a 1 1/16" socket and ratchet drive

In spite of the use of Teflon tape, I sometimes find the rod is very tight in its fitting. If so, this socket will start to deform at the holes and/or the cross shaft start to bend. In that case, it is time to find a 1 1/16" socket, extension and 3/4" ratchet handle. Still, for the price, this socket is good to have in your emergency tool kit.Other similar sockets come with a cross shaft. Note that this one does not. I'd rather chance bending a supplied cross shaft than breaking the handle or bending of one of my screwdrivers.

Multiple uses, can use for anode as well as element

Good quality, seems to be sturdy enough
