RichellPremium Plus Freestanding Pet Gate with Door

This pet gate is well made and very effective if your dog is trained for a pet gate. I have two shiz-tzu- bichon mixes and I use this for a gate between a hallway and living room that has no fixed door frame. I love the fact that it is free standing and can be easily moved anytime I want for sweeping, etc. Not only that I can move it when company comes or just anytime I don't feel it is necessary. However, it has stayed in the same spot most of the time for 5 years. I like to confine my dogs to two rooms during the night and this is a great way to do so. The walk through door is wonderful and works well. It is quite sturdy. We leave it open mostly during the day but we keep it closed at night and partly during the day so we open the door and walk through a lot. I have stepped on the side bottom arm once and broke it and had to order a replacement. That is why I order gates from this company. You can get replacement parts. This is our third pet gate from Richell. The third being not because they broke or anything, just because we wanted three different styles for three different types for door openings. They have all stood the test of time and use. No pet gate will work unless your dog is trained to stay behind it. If your dog is I think you will find that any of the Richell brand will work for you.**Update ~ 2021 ~ I bought this gate 8 years ago. I had to buy replacement legs one time and a replacement screw one time. (Very inexpensive) The gate is still used in the same doorway. It is very useful to keep my pups separated from the rest of the house when needed during the day and also keeping them on one side of the house at night. The walk through door has probably been opened hundreds of times now and it is still working properly. The gate looks good with no excessive wear. It is easy to pick up and move to another location if needed. The two side panels fold so it can fit small or larger door openings. I have three different dog gates from this brand and they have all been of good quality.**UPDATE: 2023We bought this gate 10 years ago now. It’s still in daily use basically as a doorway in our hall. We open and close the door in the middle numerous times a day. The gate is still sturdy. My dog still obeys the rule of not crossing. The gate still looks good.**UPDATE: July 202411 years of use and this pet gate is still in daily use. It's the main hallway "door" into our living room. Our pup is 13 years old now and she still knows this is her door. If you are looking for a durable dog gate that stays in place but has a door that opens this is a great choice.

This gate has worked extremely well. Nicely designed. Looks good / nicely finished. Opening and closing / latching is creative and it works well. Swings in both directions. I am using he gate at the entrance to my kitchen. This opening is not the typical door, but more of a walk through path. The sides of the opening are not directly across from each other. The folding sides of the gate allowed me to adjust to this opening. I have 4 German Shorthair Pointers. Puppy at 33 pounds and adults at 55 to 75 pounds. With the new puppy eating time was a nightmare. I needed to separate the dogs to give me some peace. The puppy was trying to eat every one else's food. The gate has been great. The gate is very stable on the support legs that are provided. My dogs could easily jump the gate. With training they have have been taught that the gate is a barrier that is only crossed with permission. The puppy is 5 months old now. When he was younger the gate was a barrier he could not cross. Now it is a barrier that he is not allowed to cross unless the gate is opened for him.

I actually LOVE this free-standing pet gate but will explain the 4 instead of 5 stars. Contrary to other reviews I read in advance, it arrived without any broken hardware and is a very nice-looking gate (I also have 2 Richell long/low barrier gates of the same style). Also, the gate door swings shut and locks in place automatically no matter which side I open (careful not to force the door open past 90 degrees or to allow it to slam shut too hard...gentle use will keep this working well longer). However, it wasn't quite as easy to put together as other reviews stated. First, the wooden feet are 4 separate pieces that must be manually screwed into the main gate: on one side of the gate this is easily done on the vertical end of 2 of the feet -- a short screw hole in both wooden feet; however, for the 2 wooden feet that go on the other side of the gate, you need to carefully navigate the screw into the much longer-burrowed opening leading to the nail hole that's on the vertical part of the wooden foot while holding the leg steady...not so easy to hold the foot with one hand and screw the nail straight into the unseen nail hole at the same time (better if you have a second person helping...I didn't). This may be why one person's review mentioned her own foot hitting the wooden gate foot and it "snapping like a twig"...the screws (and accompanying washers) must be inserted completely straight and secured very tight. Another design defect is that there's a small screw that must be inserted into the dense wood at the top of the gate door once it's adjusted to the instructed distance from the opposing side panel (why this isn't pre-measured and done by the manufacturer is beyond me) -- there's no hole in the top of the gate for that screw (again, manufacturer could have made it so door already at correct distance and fixed in place), and you really need a power drill to insert that screw. I used a lot of elbow grease and could only get the nail in half way...need to get a drill. Third imperfection was that the white plastic locking pin at top of the door wasn't sticking out far enough. I had to unscrew the 2 screws securing the plastic cover which houses that pin, remove the cover, gently stretch (don't overstretch) the small metal spring that the pin fits into, and then put the 3 pieces back together and re-secure the screws. Now the pin is right where it needs to be. Last issue is that while it's great that the side panels adjust in increments, they cannot be locked in place...there's no total panel position lock other than keeping the gate flat on the floor. The panels shift when lifting the gate if grabbed only by the center/door panel, i.e., the side panels slide slightly downwards from their plastic connectors in order to adjust them. It really would have been better engineering to be able to lift the gate for floor positioning and simultaneously have the panels stay securely in place while doing so. Otherwise, the gate is great: my 13-pound dog cannot push open the door thanks to the upper and lower pin locks and she cannot push open the side panels...both of which my little genius accomplished with my previous expensive, free-standing, three-panel, accordian, wooden door gate -- which ultimately fell apart and which was NOT a Richell gate. So, all said, I do recommend this gate!

We are so glad we bought this pet gate. The peace of mind it has given us, making sure that our 2 chihuahuas don't run out the front door, has made it worth every penny.We can also make sure now that when our petsitters arrive (when we occasionally go out of town) that they don't have to worry about our dogs getting out when they open the front door.A lot of thought went into this pet gate's design, and it shows. Quality construction, easy to set up and move around, and looks very nice to boot. The price was a kind of steep, but we're so glad we splurged.Since it's so easy to move around, we've also found it handy to use while teaching our dogs to potty train.

this is a wonderful gate. It isn't really heavy duty(my small dogs can push it backwards easily if they choose). It is easily assembles and looks great. The huge range of adjustment, easy open and close gate, and the fact that it is freestanding so it doesn't damage the walls, are all great perks. It came quickly and well-packaged with simple instructions and everything we needed to set it up.

This is a fantastic product for a dog barrier. It's nice not to have to step over something anymore. This priduct is very well made and has a wide choice of width options because of the adjustable wings. Also it does not need to be squeezed against the wall or drilled into it. Need to move it somewhere else? Just pick it up.I really appreciate the quality and little details. For example, at the top where you grab the door to pull up and open it, it's indented just a little for your fingers to grab.FYI, it comes 95% assembled. There are feet that must be attached that we didn't see at first in the packaging. Also you must PULL UP on the gate to open the wings.

This is a great product, serves its purpose and is well made. Except it doesn't work very well with big dogs as they can easily push the door open, as well as move the whole gate itself as it is all very light and not installed on a wall. I installed a hook and eye system to keep the door closed at least, but now my dog just pushes the whole thing out of his way. Great idea but not 100 percent satisfied.

Gorgeous gate. Super easy to assemble. Works perfectly to keep our puppy out of the front room. The gate is easy to open - my three year old has it figured out.

This gate is not only nice looking and solid but very wide which we where looking for. I recomend this gate to all pet owners and as a baby gate if you have a very wide and awkward opening like we do.this gate is also very affordable
