It turned my Schwinn Rivel 29er into a uphill beast!
On my first attempt at climbing steep hills with the stock DNP freewheel I quickly ran out of steam and resorted to "hike-a-bike". Sure I'm also overweight and out of condition but disappointed as well that I couldn't join the other people that were climbing with little effort (or so it seemed to me). That is until I ran into this freewheel.I figured, what the heck, it's only $14! Well, I also had to buy the FR-1 tool to do the work myself but I figured it beats taking it to a LBS (local bike shop) which will charge me many times more for labor. While I was at it, I decided to also replace the stock chain because it was slightly bent with a new KMC Z50 and with that purchase came a chain break tool.I'm glad I did it myself! It only took about 15 minutes to replace the freewheel and chain and didn't need to readjust the rear derailleur because it shifting perfectly fine! I'm not sure if that will be the case with other bikes so don't take my word for it.I didn't get a chance to test it out until a week later due to rain, but I took it to the local "The Fullerton Loop" - which is 12 miles of easy to moderate climbs. It had just rained in the morning so the whole route had plenty of mud. With this freewheel I had no problem keeping up with others that were riding $2K+ bikes whether it was through mud, a steep climb or steady uphill.I'm 5'11" and currently weighing in at 250 lbs so I'm not a small guy. The point is that with this freewheel I was able to take on some steep climbs which has motivated me to continue doing this newly found love for mountain biking. With time I will get in better condition and hopefully lose some weight and HAVE FUN doing so.Is it for everyone? Probably not. But it sure is if you need that extra help like I did. AND it was easy to install by myself. Here are the things I purchased:$13.97 Shimano Z31 freewheel$8.05 KMC Z50 chain$7.41 FR-1 Park Tool$15.95 Park Tool Chain Tool$45.38 + tax totalThat's probably much less than I would have paid had I gone to my LBS - so I'm happy.

What should have came on mongoose fat bikes
Bought this to replace the factory freewheel on a mongoose malus fat bike, definitely worth the money, the bike was a hassle on steep hills and loose sand plus my original broke a bearing, now it's no problem at all, didn't have to do any adjustment to the derailleur. I was a little worried about it shifting to the large first gear but it shifts smoother than it did with the original

Easy Swap, High Quality, Love the Low Gear!
I bought this to replace the 7 speed freewheel on my big-box bike. My bike is setup as a 1x7 with a Tourney derailleur. All you need is the appropriate tool to remove the old freewheel. It was a direct swap, required no adjustment to my shifter or anything. my bike has 700c wheels, and short crank arms with a 1x7 setup, so the extra range on the low gear makes a big difference for getting up hills. (I live in Pittsburgh, we know all about hills...) i eventually plan on purchasing another one for my girlfriends bike, which is the same as mine, just the womens model. she'll love having the lower first gear.

Review and notes for Costco Fat Tire Bike, Bronco
I couldn't find any reviews for my application, if you have this bike or similar it works great, but you'll need a few things. Park Tool CT-5 Mini Chain Brute Chain Tool Park Tool FR-1 Freewheel Remover for Shimano FreewheelsKMC Z51 Bicycle Chain (6 & 7 Speed, 1/2 x 3/32-Inch) I took mine apart to lube the crunchy bearings and did this upgrade while I was there. Everyone complains about these bikes being heavy and cheap, probably because they're heavy and cheap. While your $5k carbon fiber bike is hanging in the garage waiting for its next coat of wax this one has been from the Atlantic to the Grand Canyon. This upgrade means you can go ANYWHERE, it totally negates the weight of the bike. Do it.

Easy Upgrade for Super Low Gear to Power up Hills-Great for Kids!
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Used to upgrade a 20" inch Kent Rock Candy Girls Bike. My 7 years old daughter was disliked hill climbs with the stock free wheel. This gives increased climbing confidence (no more dismounting on modest on hills).*Installation was straight forward after removal of old free wheel with Park FR-7 free wheel removal tool.*Paired this with a Shimano trigger shifter. *Used old chain and derailleur with no problems-shifts fine and has used for many miles so far.Pic show how derailleur straightens out on lowest gear but chain still has good length on this standard 1x7 setup that comes on many 20" kids mountain style bikes.
