Q: is it harmful to use this product as a nightlight?

You should never, ever do anything! Each act brings danger. From drinking the contents of fuel oil packets included in some power tool packaging (just check the instructions, you'll see) all the way to beating children with lawn darts. Stay inside. And never ever use this product. At all. After all, there are only a few left at this price and I want one.

Q: anyone know about buying a replacement bulb for this fixture?

Replacement bulb size is on the manual it comes with. I recommend searching that for the exact one.

Q: I want to use this for a party, will it illuminate an entire room?

yes, it is at a different light spectrum from regular incandescent bulbs, fluorescent bulbs give a true black-light experience. The light should cover 400 sq ft about a size of 20x20 ft room. If you want the very bright glow of neon colors and white objects I suggest at least two of them or one 48'' inch flourescent fixture. If you are looking to use this light to illuminate a room that has dark colors such as browns , blacks and blues and walls are a dark color too, the light will not illuminate these objects. If you are using it for a party, be sure to have other lights available to turn on, when navigating thru the room
