The Best Deck Stainer!
This deck stainer has a groove tool, which cuts the work in half! On the down side, this item is frequently out of stock (I tried many online and local stores), so I'm concerned it may become discontinued. No! This applicator saves SO much time, even moreso than a roller...the only brush work needed is recessed corners. Clean-up is simple - just replace the pad.

A roller worked better!
We purchased this Product to stain a brand new Covered deck on the cabin we are building for ourselves. It was about 80 degrees out that day, the first 2 swipes on the NEW wood deck the center piece broke! I put that piece in the trash, Then after about 3 minutes The Whole pad starts to fall apart leaving the pad pieces everywhere on the deck. I then walked over to my cooler and grabbed a beer to calm my nerves. This is a oil based stain by the way. Anyway, I enjoyed putting it in the trash where it belongs with the center piece. I then broke out an”old school” roller and finished staining the rest of our 600 sq. ft. Deck. The roller lasted the whole time. “Weird” I’m Not putting this product down or anything, just didn’t enjoy my experience with something that looks like a good idea. I probably was doing something seriously wrong, Even though I have 30 years of knowledge in painting? It could happen I guess. You can make the same mistake as me, spend your money on a cool / easy to use pad or just get a $2.00 roller to do the job. Happy Staining!

Decent invention.
When you retract the groove brush and start staining where there is no grove it leaves a space because there is no stain on the groove space. I turned it at about a 30 degree angle and it covered it all. You just can’t go straight up and back. Good tool, lot better than rolling and cleaner even stain. Time saver for sure.

Groove tool cover doesn't work well - comes loose very quickly
Like other reviews, I found that the cover came off the groove tool within the first 6 feet of using it. This was on deck boards with 1/4 inch spacing and semi-transparent oil stain. One star for that. I had to use a paint brush on a stick for the grooves. But the flat pad worked fine, so 4 stars for that.

A Very Good Tool to Apply Deck Stain
Generally pads are the best tool to apply deck stain and waterproofing. However the groove tool also applies the stain to the groove between the boards. Very handy

Not easy to use. Don't waste your $$
Was looking for a way to apply deck stain without having to tediously brush paint each and every groove between deck boards. The top of the boards were already stained, so just needed something to get those vertical surfaces done in the grooves. This tool looked like it would be the ideal solution. .. but unfortunately, it was not. In fact, it turned out to be a waste of paint, time and money. And in the end, all the grooves had to be hand painted with a brush anyway. Without getting into the mechanics of how this product failed for me, let me just say that I don't recommend it to anyone.

Right idea, but poor construction
The center piece that is suppose to handle the "between the boards" is the right idea, but after a couple of passes, the piece fell of the tool. The piece was only glued on verses a small rivet or some other design that would secure the needed center piece.

Fabulous and worked really well!
Don' be scared off by the price..... this is one handy little gadget! The handle flips over to reveal a "shark fin" idea that makes staining between the deck boards a breeze.

NO
The groove tool is larger than the spacing between the deck boardsmine was inoperable, you can not lock the handle so the grove tool is down or up it is fluidthe foam breaks up quickly and makes a messit is too large to easily operate by hand and again, handle doesn't lock so you get grove and non grove constantlyDO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY VERSION - expensive and awkward and self destrucs quicklynot much nice to say about thisalso, i contacted seller about this groove tool not quite retracting leaving streaks and actuall - grooving the wood - TO NO RESPONSE so not only is this a horrible product - there is no customer serviceUPDATE had to touch up the next day as coverage was not complete

Broke
Sponge idea works to hold plenty of stain for application, but there is no flex in the head for cupped or dished boards. The groove tool was the reason we bought this and it broke with the first couple of passes on the deck.We searched high and low for a product we used to have similar to a swifter wetjet that held and sprayed stain with the groove tool, but could not find. We settled on this but very disappointed. Good bristled stain brush on a pole was better.

Makes staining my deck a Pleasure!
The pad and the easily adjustable attachment for handling were very helpful to use in staining my deck.My only problem was that the Groove Tool did not work very well in the areas of my deck where the grooves were uneven . I had to use a separate hand -brush to paint out those grooves. After completing the job and washing the pad in running water it was ready to use the next time!
