What a fun project! I bought this for Valentine's Day for my husband and me. We've been married 35+ years and I wanted something different. I was searching online for a gift for grandparents when I came across this.First, it's easy to use. Don't be afraid of the process. And it doesn't take long - less than an hour to prep everything, read instructions, and get the plaster into the mold. Then it just takes time to cure.And it's not messy (unless you want it to be). Clear off your workspace, put a large plastic trash bag down and get started. READ the directions. Get a timer out. Everything you need is included except a pair of rubber gloves, a large mixing bowl, and a wooden spoon.Read through everything in advance. You basically mix the stuff that will create the mold of your hands, then mix the plaster and pour it into the mold. Let it set up, pull it apart carefully. And presto you have your hands.I've included a bunch of photos to show you how it went for us.First, decide how you will clamp your palms together. You DON'T WANT much space between your two palms. Find something that's comfortable and look at it to be sure it's the design you are looking for. We used our left hands since I wanted our wedding rings to show. (BTW, don't worry about jewelry - the amalgamite comes off easily with water and a toothbrush).Then test putting your two hands into the bucket clamped together to be sure you know how deep to push your hands into the bucket before they would touch the bottom and so they don't touch the sides of the bucket. If they do touch the bucket during the process, the mold won't work very well. You need to create the mold "pocket" inside the bucket with the amalgamite around your hands.Second, determine where you will sit or stand comfortably for the 9 minutes the amalgamite takes to set up. With your hands clamped together and not moving, you need to be in a comfortable position.And get your timer set nearby.We used a large wooden spoon to mixing the amalgamite; the included wooden tool didn't seem large enough. After mixing, the amalgamite did have lumps in it and it worked just fine. It also changes color from purple as you mix it, to a pale blue pretty quickly. We used lukewarm tap water and it cured in the 9 minutes the instructions says are best. Be patient. Set your timing as soon as you push your hands in. Keep your hands and fingers as still as possible.Once it's cured (you can push the rubber-like substance and it bounces back), one person gently slides their hand out of the mold, and then the next person does the same. You should definitely rinse out the mold and let the water slosh around inside the mold to remove any loose pieces of amalgamite. Empty the mold of all water.Then you put the mold aside and put on your rubber gloves and mix the plaster in a separate bowl with your hands. It is a paint-like (watery) consistency when it's ready to pour - and you move quickly to pour it into the bucket with the mold. BE SURE to tilt the bucket all around and tap it on your worktable. You need to be sure there aren't any air pockets inside. If your hands are clamped together with fingers pointing up, you have to be sure the fingertips are filled with plaster.Then let it sit. I left it overnight. Then you can take a knife around the edges to release it from the bucket. Gently peel away the amalgamite and your hands pop out. You can use the included tool or toothpicks to remove any amalgamite that is stuck in crevices.Let the plaster hands dry in a safe place per instructions and you can lightly sand as needed. We haven't mounted ours on the included wooden baseplate yet but will soon. Good luck!!

The simplicity of making this item

This product was great although it stated in the directions that it came with acrylic paint and brush and it did not!

I only gave it 4/5 stars bc when we put our hands in together, they were scraped by the bottom of the bucket to actually fit the right way, which caused dents in our results, still cute after being painted

I just want to start off by saying ive never in my life have had such amazing customer service and will always recommend this item along with the seller just because of that. The first item I received I messed up due to the directions being messed up and put in for a replacement after noticing many people had that issue and got the replacement. I had an issue with the second one I think mainly because I was going based off what I did the first time( idk why I didnt ask for proper instructions the second time or even bother to read them again) after speaking with the seller they offerd a refund and another replacement in hopes it might work and well 3rd time is the charm. It came out imperfectly perfect. I'm so excited that the seller sent out this extra one so i could try again because I wouldn't have this beautiful piece in my home now. Thank you so much koolkrafts. Ordered finally after months of yes/no got the product and unfortunately it was defective but the customer service was amazing I let them know and had a new on 2 days later haven't done it yet but anxious to see finished product

It didn’t come out perfect (there were holes and little bumps all over it) but everything else worked out really good and the instructions are easy to follow. It’s a fun project to do together and make sure to leave out extra powder for touch ups after!
