Convenient locking drawer
Is it a safe? No, but I have safes. This is a convenient locking drawer that I now use as my dump drawer. It unlocks reliably. Would I trust it to secure (and release) a gun that I may need in an emergency? Probably not. Do I trust it to keep curious little hands off of my EDC gear while sitting heatly under the edge of my bar? Yes.

The media could not be loaded. **Updated Review 8/1/2021**I was contacted by the seller after my first review. They offered to replace the item to satisfy the problem with the safe's inability to lock properly. The replacement item showed up quickly and in the same packaging as before. I was a little hesitant as the item was the exact same as the previous.I installed the safe in the same location as previous safe and set the numbers for the code and set the biometrics of my fingers. I waited a few seconds and patiently used my finger to unlock the safe. It worked perfectly. I tried another finger. It worked first try. I used the code. Again, it worked perfectly by opening on the first try. After a week of use and storing of personal items, the safe is working well and illuminates at night to easily locate items. The safe is convenient for storing important paperwork, personal weapons, ammunition, money, jewelry, and any other small items. The safe can't fit many items, so I mostly use it for convenience at my desk. Overall, I'm much more excited about this item than the first defected one. It's easily the best safe when it's working properly and functioning effectively. I would purchase this safe again for use in my office desk or personal home.***************************I inspected the safe and locking mechanism from the working and broken safe. They both looked identical and height, width, and latch looked the same. But the two operated completely different.First off, this product has the perfect dimensions and practical use. The size inside the "safe" can easily store two full sized hand-guns, money, jewelry, and important documents. Unfortunately, it doesn't function properly as a "safe". The definition of a Safe by Webster is "Protected from or not exposed to danger or risk; not likely to be harmed or lost."This definition fits half the product. This product essentially acts as a drawer with minimal locking capabilities. The pictures provided show it's profile design for under a common office desk. It fits perfectly and leaves enough room for legs and doesn't have sharp corners to puncture your thighs. The video provides footage using the 1) Biometric feature (historically it takes 3-5 times to open) and 2) typing the 4-digit code (again, historically it takes 3-5 times to open). 3) Using the 2 provided keys works well and easily opens up the product. 4) But there's a 4th way to open up the product. If you push down and pull out, it automatically opens up without using any keys, biometric features, or passcode. This is unacceptable. Especially when storing valuables, weapons, or jewelry. I don't know if this is a product malfunction as many other users have shown their displeasure about this exact same problem occurring. As a responsible adult/parent, I want store my valuables and weapons in a safe manner from any risk. This item does not provide this simple function effectively.I looked at the locking mechanism and noticed it's a short metal latch. This is why it can be manipulated to open. A determined child can easily open this product in seconds without having access to keys, biometric features, and passcode. I was going to have my 6-year old push down and open it to show it's defectiveness, but I decided not to embellish it's poor design.I'm torn about this product because I've read multiple reviews having the same complaint, but it was ultimately fixed with another product. I still don't feel a product should this many "faulty" units, especially since a new product would requires more drilling and installation. Furthermore, I truly enjoy the design and features. But it ultimately fails as being used as a "safe".

Decent bedside safe - will see how long battery lasts :)
The safe arrived but I couldn't mount it anywhere - the design requires a FLUSH shelf that has no lip or edge that hangs down, and I didn't have that with my solid wood nightstands. Plus... the "template" which was supposed to be provided did not come in the box (but that' s no deal-breaker if you are handy). Being handy, I had to figure a way to mount it that worked around this limitation. My nightstands have a cubbyhole above the drawers, and so I measured how far the lip came down from the inside of the roof of the cubbyhole. It was exactly 1" so I bought 2 half-inch thick pine boards and planned on using them as a "spacer" so the drawer could actually work in the cubbyhole. What a pain... no drilling possible due to tight spacing :( so a stub screwdriver had to do. I measured everything out (I'm omitting about 2hours of tinkering, measuring and toying) and finally had my placement figured out. Once I had the 2 spacers in place mounted on the ceiling of the cubby hole, I was actually able to use the 2 positioning screwholes and set the drawer in place for the 6 permanent screws, which were now going into my spacers instead of the nightstand. OMG it would have been nice if the instructions mentioned you can pop the drawer OFF the sliders... I figured that out about half-way through. Once you have the drawer removed, it is MUCH easier to use the mounting holes and secure the frame. But the front 2 holes are exactly above a support bar... so bad engineering there as the 2 front screws had to go in at a funny angle (I didn't have a ratchet handy with a screw bit which would have worked better to get those screws in correctly). The battery compartment is a pain to open, and once you do and connect the battery to the leads... have fun getting it back in there as there is zero free space. The plastic cover would barely close and I had to force it. Good news is if the cover breaks, you won't need it as the battery is so snug it won't fall out into the compartment - ever. You'll need a thin blade to pry the battery out when you replace it.The key works fine, the drawer slides fine. Makes a little noise, but nothing very loud and you can "catch" the drawer to reduce any noise further. The keypad works so far and you can have up to 5 digits from 1-4 as your PIN. The biometrics work, but are very finicky about your finger being in the exact same position as when you set them. I recommend closing the drawer as much as possible, and standing to bend down to set your fingerprint - this will likely be the same position you will be in when you need to open the safe and it will orientate your finger the same way for a good match. You can store up to 30 fingerprints so do a couple fingers in multiple positions to make sure it will open by print when you need it to.

Good, but could be better
Odd as it may seem, there are almost no biometric safes to put underneath a car seat that slide out. This was the only one I found. Specs looked great. The safe was designed to be hung under a desk or something, and im sure it does that well. It isnt designed great for being put on the floor. Im sure I can make it work with some modifications. The most frustrating thing is that the battery compartment is really small. The battery included barely fits, and the Energizer lithium 9v i tried doesnt fit at all. Major design blunder. It is very easy to program both for the combination and fingerprints. The inside area is huge, and the light helps. The buttons seem a bit flimsy. Not sure how theyll hold up over time. If they had put some more thought into this, it would be a great product.

UPDATE
Update review,I was contacted by the seller after posting my review. They acknowledged they had some issues and corrected them. They sent me a new unit free of charge and it works great. I am happy with the new one.Original review,This thing quit working in a few months. I used it no more than 10 times. Put new batteries in and still the unlocking mechanism doesn’t work. Can’t get ahold of customer service. Don’t waste your money.
