You can make a difference! You are important!
Having boasted of his running skills, reality has brought Robin down to earth with a BIG bump as on race day he only came fourth which was not good enough for him to compete in the county finals. Things look a bit brighter once Grandad picks him up. Grandad is able to make toy animals talk so when he gives Robin 50 pence (yes this book is British) to spend, Robin takes his time to choose his toy carefully at the car boot sale (yard sale). He ends up purchasing a camel, Clarence, who was brought back from Saudi Arabia when the stall holder was a young boy.Back at home, Grandad works his magic and Clarence starts talking. First he tells them all about camels, along with the two different types: Bactrian and Dromedary. Clarence is a one humped camel so a Dromedary. Turns out that Clarence was destined to be a famous racing camel but just like Robin, he didn't make it. When taken back to his herd, he wandered off by himself. Hearing this strange noise he discovers his former owner, a sheik, has crashed his plane. He was able to rescue the sheik and spent many years as a Royal Camel before retiring. The next day, when Robin goes back to school, there is great disappointment when they learn that Sport's Day may have to be cancelled due to the main organiser being sick. Robin puts his hand up and offers to help as he is not fast enough for the races. Everyone cheers and claps and Robin has forgotten all his heartache, instead concentrating on the important things he now has to do!This is a lovely, easy to read story that children will totally understand. Unless you have an independent reader then most young children will prefer this to be read to them as it is quite long.Any cons? Not sure if it just my version of the Kindle but the font sizes tend to vary sometimes. Not a problem as the book is still very readable.
