Steady and Dark Like Other Alien Novels

I could not tell whether the author written a story or just repeatedly saying Buddha. Seriously, five times at most would be ok but they could have used other words or phrases as well. If they weren’t so afraid of using ‘God’ every once and a while or even Hades at least or words any other interjections or exclamations. The story did keep on my toes. Earth Hive reminded me so much for the plot of Dead Space 2 or even just Dead Space in general. You would think that after a while or trails and one hundred percent error rates that humanity would leave the xenomorphs alone but no! The stories are heavily pro-feminine compared to the original four novels. I don’t mind the story being pro-feminine but these stories have a bit too much. There are a few unnecessary details throughout, not a lot but few. Too many female characters have masculine names which is demeaning not equalizing for women. It is a fairly quick read, the graphic sex scenes, I feel were bit much and took the focus and atmosphere of the story off leaving the authors trying to get the mood back. There are a couple of Dues ex Machina throughout the entire book. I like that they brought back an original character into the mix but it almost seems out of desperation rather than being a plus to the story. I feel the focus of the overall story was the main female character trying to save herself, a form of self-made salvation if you wish. The girl on earth, Amy, was a representation of what Billie saw of herself when she was ten years old. As for Ripley, she was trying to save a representation of her daughter.

The Steve Perry "Aliens" trilogy - on Kindle at last!

I originally read these books in high school, and loved 'em. I've been requesting Amazon get these books released on Kindle for years, and to get them all for the price of one was an amazing deal (at least to me).Set roughly ten years after the movie "Aliens", veteran sci-fi writer Steve Perry tells a great story of the aliens and their escape into the wilds on Earth, while disgraced Colonial Marine Sgt. Wilks and Billie, a female survivor from an alien invasion of another colony which occurred around the same time as the crisis in the second movie. Surprisingly, Ripley shows up for the third book. How? Read and find out. ;-)That's all I'm going to reveal in this review about the plot of this book trilogy. As with any of the Alien movies, Perry does not shy away from the graphic violence that comes from dealing with a deadly species like the aliens. He also developed his characters into real and believable people who fit right into the mythos of the Alien stories. As for sexual content, yes - there are a few scenes in Earth Hive and The Female War (which Perry wrote with his daughter). Perry does not shy away from detail necessary to provide a real you-are-there feeling, but doesn't go into blatantly disgustingly graphic.Any sign of Predators? No.Any Engineers (from the movie "Prometheus")? Ehhh . . . yes and no. There is a creature that Perry developed, based off the appearance of the fossilized Engineer pilot - and since these books were released long before "Prometheus", which revealed that the pilot was in a flight suit, the creature in this book looks very different - but it does fly an Engineer ship. Since this continuity error is the result of a new movie, and not author's lack of attention, I can overlook it.Whether or not this story continues in the upcoming Vol. 2 Omnibus, I don't know. I haven't read those.

Wouldn’t want to miss the reunion.

This is a pretty solid collection of stories, three of them: Earth Hive, Nightmare Asylum and The Female War. Together these three books are the direct sequel to the movie Aliens and the continuing adventures of Ripley, Hicks and Newt. Kind of. You have to keep in mind that these were written before Alien 3 came out, and that is the most glaring problem.Twentieth Century Fox wants to keep continuity between all Alien properties, an admirable goal, but the only way to accomplish it now is to change either the books or the films. Guess which one they chose? They fixed this conundrum in the laziest way possible. Since Newt and Hicks are dead in the opening credits of Alien 3 they decided to just do a “find and replace” on their names, changing them to Billie (Newt) and Wilks (Hicks). Ugh, I hate it. They should have just let the movie and literature universes be separate, like Marvel, because they have made these stories worse by doing this. Not just worse, but confusing, because now you have to mentally translate these names back to the ones you know. It’s kind of disgusting really, I don’t think I will ever read these again, although I’m glad I made the effort. I always wondered what could have been.

Great collection!

A great collection of what Aliens could have been after the second film.

Erectile Androids

The first story in the three included in this omnibus edition raises the old, old question that has been asked by AI researchers since the beginning of time: when we design an android with a short life-span for use only in military combat, should we or should we not equip it with a fully functioning penis that can be mistaken by a female of the species for the real thing at close quarters? One doesn't want one's fighting men to be seen as dickless wonders, but there are those who say that designing erectile organs may not be the best place to put your investment when constructing a killing machine to take down aliens with acid blood. I fear this argument will never be resolved in a satisfactory way.

Basic storytelling

It’s okay... stories are pretty basic... fun, easy reading, just no depth

Great novelization of the Aliens Dark Horse comics

I'll keep these reviews spoiler free. This is a novelization from the Aliens Dark Horse comics under the same name (Earth Hive, Nightmare Asylum and Female War).I will say I really loved the first 2 novels, they stay pretty true to the Aliens canon and also reference familiar stuff from LV 426 in the Alien/Aliens films. The characters are well written and developed. Great action and pacing. It falls down for me in the third part of the trilogy, The Female war kind of sucks a bit, is unrealistic and goes a little crazy with the canon. A well known character comes back but they don't really explain how they came to be the way they are. I know this is vague for spoilers. I'd say this one is readable and has good action but the story is really lacking.2 out of 3 isn't half bad and this book is still worth checking out.
