These beautiful big seeds were found littering the trail in a humid montane forest on the Pacific side of the Osa Peninsula, in Costa Rica. The pods were hanging from vines, which you can see in the photos. The seed pods are covered with beautiful velvety stinging hairs which make handling the pod extremely painful. These are called sea beans because they often fall into streams where they wash out to the sea.
