Whynter CHC-172BD Elite Touch Control Stainless 1.8 cu.ft. Cigar Humidor with LED Panel, Black

Purchased in February, 2019 and as of 11/4/21 (2+ years), the control panel has stopped working. As a result, the cooling fan no longer engages and humidity has dropped down to 50 from the usual temp. of 66 that I set it at since day 1 of delivery. I’m quite disappointed and have given up on Whynter products. I have ordered a new unit from a different manufacturer which will be delivered on 11/7/21. Can’t wait to get my cigars back into a stable humidity environment. Hopefully, this unit comes with a warranty.

My wife bought this for me for Christmas. I've been a cigar guy for 30 years. I have another traditional 200 cigar humidor, but this one has the temperature control feature, and definitely looks great and looks like a serious tool for a serious cigar person. At the price, is is a bargain, considering, good passive humidors cost $2-300+. It holds quite a bit, and can easily hold a few full boxes of cigars, box and all. This is great for its WOW factor.This is basically a refrigerator for cigars, with a range of 40 to 65 Degrees F. It does not control humidity. Humidity control is done passively with gels, or other methods you prefer to use. I use gels. Seems to work well with this uni.It would be nice is an automatic humidification system was incorporated into the unit, for that I cannot give this a 5 star rating. It may be just in my head, but I think the system dries up more quickly than a passive humidor. So I have been more diligent in making sure the humidity is up to acceptable levels. Other issues, including the ones below, I think are not deal killers.The unit is well designed, with high utility in mind. The one aspect that seems to have slipped is the fact that you have to open the door 180 degrees in order for the pull-out drawers to open. The drawers will not slide out/open with the door open at 90 degrees. So it is important to place this humidor where you can swing the door open all the way.The analog hygrometer that comes with the unit is 5 to 10% off. It is more decorative than useful. I use a backup digital hygrometer to keep things honest. But the temperature/thermostat seems to be within 2-3 degrees.Having said that, after a year of ownership, the unit started to get a little noisy, and the temperature went wacko. A plastic hinge cover also broke. I contacted the manufacturer, they diagnosed it based on the symptoms and quickly sent me replacement parts including a new cooling unit and control board, which swapped out pretty easily and got me back on the road. The customer service was very efficient, professional and kind. The manufacturer obviously stand by their product. I am hoping this humidor will give me years of good service.

I received this unit as a Christmas gift and immediately seasoned the cedar with distilled water...lightly sprayed all sides of the wood trays and waited 2 days before loading it up. I am amazed at how it has steadily maintained temperature and humidity. Mine is holding steady at 65-66 degrees and 69%-70% humidity. The hygrometer that comes with the unit is useless. I use a digital Thermoworks - Thermo Hygrometer (RT817E) which is highly accurate and perfectly hooks onto the pullout draw. I have about 300 sticks in there now with room for at least another 100+I give this humidor an A++

I owned the humidor for slightly over one year when it started to act up...wrong temps...no fan running, etc. It sounded electrical so I contacted tech support. They walked me through several steps and identified either a burnt circuit board or cooling unit. Amber R. with Whynter support emailed me back several times to make sure I got the replacement parts and how it all worked out. She was very good during the whole process and timely responses. Thanks for that....Amber was able to send me both parts to replace even though I was a couple months out of warranty. Instructions were emailed and shipped with the parts as well and they were very clear to follow. I now bought another unit of the same humidor and the two look great sitting next to each other. They maintain a good seal and humidity.
