Q: Can I use thermal binding covers from a different brand with this machine?

This machine will work with our Thermobind Brand, Pro-Bind, and Fellowes, as well as most other thermal covers. The one exception is Unibind. If you want to use Unibind with this machine we will send you afree adapter which works to lower the temperature so you don't melt the Unibind covers.The adapter is a piece of fiberglass cloth coated with teflon that simply rests on the hot plate .

The Coverbind 5000 has a heating plate that is over 2 1/2 inches wide. The widest soft cover made is 2". That cover could hold up to 500 sheets of 20 lb paper if the paper runs thin. There is no exact correlation between paper weight and thickness, so I suggest you measure the thickness of the ream. If you can fold and score your own cover and use a glue strip, then you definitely can bind 500 sheets. The limitation is not the machine. it's the supplies.
