This version (the Barnes & Noble Classics Series) is an affordable and complete (in two volumes) collection of Doyle's most popular series of work: Sherlock Holmes's mysteries. Holmes's popularity has survived more than a century and shows no signs of fading, as he is a key character--both recognized and enjoyed--in modern culture as he ever was. Although there are many versions of these stories available, the B&N Classic Series is a recommended consideration for buyers, especially those who don't have their heart set on a hard cover edition. This is an early bday gift for myself and I think I will enjoy it thoroughly. The introduction and notes by Kyle Freeman are very informative without being over-bearing and stuffy. I was intrigued by his "take" on many of the facets we consider staid and true about Sherlock Holmes and I was also happy to learn facts about the Holmesology and how things became legend...the pipe he "always smoked" the "Holmes hat" and other such things we take for granted as being totally Sherlockian in todays age of the spin-off market. I have always wished to own all of the Sherlock short stories and novels and cannot wait to gift myself the second volume. There are many footnotes explaining the different phrases and French or Latin expressions that are invariably used by Doyle through the works. The footnotes are at the very bottom of the corresponding pages and are easy and informative for any first time reader. This book includes a General Intro, a Timeline, an Intro by Freeman, and a small biography of Doyle. I would recommend the Barnes and Noble Classics to anyone. Great Job!

I admit. I am a Sherlock Holmes Fan. I read the whole version in Chinese when I was a little kid. Then when I came to US, I used this book as a way to study English, so I loaned the book from library and read it through way back then. But now I would love to read them again because of the Sherlock TV show. This book has all the novel and short stories. It is two volume edtion, so make sure you get both volumes if you are looking for a complete collection of Sherlock Holmes. The print is kind of small, but as a mid 20 young adult. It has not been a issue for me yet. I didn't have the kindle version. So I can't comment on the format problems that many people are experiencing through the kindle version.

Well-organized book for a great price. Contains half of the entire Holmes canon.There are enough footnotes for the typical reader, but leaves a die-hard fan such as myself yearning for a little more.Intro is short and raises main analysis points only--however, if it's the stories you want, not analysis, this book is fantastic.Both volume #1 & #2 are quite large books. This is another great Barnes & Nobles classic.

I bought the Barnes and Noble print for $5 and it has been a great read. Paper quality is good, so is the print and formatting. Jacket design and quality are appropriate.

This book is a terrific way to spend an afternoon. It begins with how Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson met, and goes on to every new mystery they encounter together. Each chapter is a new case and only about 10 pages each so it's an easy and enjoyable read. I can't recommend this book more!

Sherlock Holmes is always a great read. The font in the book is a little on the small side, which does not bother me but might make for a more challenging read for some.

I love Sherlock Holmes but having to buy all the books is an admittedly daunting and wallet emptying process.Barnes and Nobles cleverly put half of Doyles Holmes stories in this volume.Not only was it cheaper but it was also convenient for people who don't want to carry around 20 books.

It's a fantastic read, very well written and with interesting characters and dialogues. I'm not going into detail otherwise, just know, that by reading Sherlock Holmes you can never waste your time. The Quality of Paper I got from Barnes & Noble was also quite good.
