Orient Express: Legend of Travel (Classics)

Very disappointing book. Don't expect interesting stories of traveling nobility or spies and double agents. No vivid descriptions how the well-to-do traveled in style against a backdrop of the normal trainmen, station agents, workers and general public. No behind the scenes stories. Not even the mechanicals and logistics of weight, speed, time, fuel and horsepower to impress the reader. Evidently just buying the book is supposed to be the impressive aspect, after all it's 10" X 13" and one inch thick! And no wonder- 24 font type, small pictures and design swirls enlarged enough to fill the whole page, blowups of the studio handouts for movies using the O E, filmed there or not. Wikipedia has more info about The Orient Express. Quality of the binding, covers and pages are first class, some of the pictures are real and well presented but just not much else. Should have known something was amiss just by the cover: Beautiful Marlene Dietrich in a pose from a movie about an airplane, on the cover of a train book.

Great tribute to the history of the Orient Express. Many photos. Classy volume.

It's an elegant and beautiful book. May be not for real railway enthusiasts (this is the one you should get  les wagons-lits ) but the book will certainly let you feel an aura of the legendary train in modern perspective. Highly recommended.

Beautiful, luxurious, oozes quality. A visual delight. Light on text but who cares.
