Product description The revolutionary Boxia AFO uses the latest in technological advances and materials to provide a drop foot support that is both modern and comfortable in its design. Manufactured using the latest generation of fabrics and elastomers it is a comfortable and cosmetic method for treating drop foot. The discreet device blends well with everyday clothing whilst still providing full functionality Features: The Boxia device consists of 2 separate components: a cuff situated above the ankle and a non-slip hook section placed between the footwear’s tongue and laces/Velcro straps. These sections are connected by an elastic strap which provides complete adjustment of the required level of dorsiflexion (foot-lift). The ankle cuff has gel padded sections for increased achilles and dorsiflexor tendon comfort How it Works: The Boxia support raises the forefoot, providing vital foot clearance during swing phase. This reduces the risk of tripping over such everyday items as rugs, kerbs and uneven surfaces. The Boxia encourages natural gait pattern by allowing normal ankle movement when stepping off the foot Benefits: Discreet, comfortable and flexible. It does not occupy space in the shoe and is easily adjusted Colour: black Indications For Use: Flaccid paralysis drop foot See images for size guide Indications Drop Foot

Should have gone for this from the off.
I came across this at the home of one of my customers. Like me he suffers from a drop foot, though his is a total paralysis, mine has some movement and total feeling. The orthotic device I had been prescribed with was one of these plastic wrap around under the foot and strapped around at the top of the calf muscle. For my requirements I felt it was very overkill, and for me, wearing shorts in the summer was a no no. My customer suggested the boxia item as he got on fine with it. I thought it over for several months, and eventually took the plunge last week. For me it's been a revelation, and I wish I knew about this device a few years back. All the minor inconveniences that went with the plastic device have now gone. I used to have to buy footwear a size larger so it would fit inside. Narrower fitting trousers would not fit because of the bulkiness of the straps etc. From a vanity point of view, shorts were out of the question. This simple little velcro strap has removed all of these issues. For £50 it is great value, I will be investing in the skin tone one in a couple of months.

Great until the hook snapped.
I wanted to wait a year before doing my review because it's impossible to gauge durability without a long period of use. I ordered mine 30/09/15 and was all ready to give it a four star with this month being the anniversary, but the hook on the foot attachment snapped literally this morning, so it's lost a star for that.Positives-It's probably the best of all the non-plastic material ones on the market. The fact that the connection between ankle and shoe is elastic is great and allows good flexibility. It works with laced shoes and does the job.Negatives-The hook snapped just before the one year mark of use (today). This is a huge issue because I could have seriously injured myself when it snapped when my foot went straight down. Not sure what the lifespan of the hook is supposed to be but that's a major issue. I would not have expected that to happen at all. There is downward pressure on the top of the foot which is common for these types of over-the-foot braces. Can be resolved by wearing a decent soft material ankle brace under it but it can get tight.Overall, use with caution and check the hooks regularly. The metal must be a decent one but it could be much sturdier. But aside from that, it's served me really well.

If you're reading this you probably don't need to pay too much attention to the opinion of another and are instead looking for a solution to the constant rubbing through of your shoes, the poor swing phase in your gait, the mental tiring, the constant fighting. You may have tried numerous other devices in the past and are getting increasingly despondent. Buying one of these is not a preference thing, it is functional.I actually use an A.F.O. for getting out-and-about but when I need more flexibility (going to the gym etc) I use one of these. The Orliman Boxia is a well-made, high-quality medical device that has lasted rather well. I have used the device two or three times a week for in excess of 2 years and it's still doing its job.Whoever pointed you in the direction of this product knows what they're talking about. Good, but needed velcro to keep the hook fast
My physiotherapist recommended this for my drop foot problem. I have used them on my two pairs of trainers and they seem to work fine. One problem I've overcome is that the hook wouldn't stay on the tongue due to the tension from the elastic strap so I used Prestik velcro squares that stick on the tongue and the leather diamond in which the hook sits, and they seem to be OK. I tried three on one pair and four on the other but both seem strong enough.

very sturdy product
Having developed foot drop from a back problem, I have used the Ossur foot up for past year, and it is a good product. However as another reviewer reported, it does become pretty saggy quickly, constantly requiring adjustment, so decided to give the Boxia a try. What a difference! so much more stable around the ankle, material a much firmer fit, although still comfortable. Also i have found the foot to ankle attachment much more stable. It is easy to secure, and adjustable by wrapping further round ankle. The foot to ankle attachment is less discreet than foot up, consisting of a hook, and what looks like a small bunjee cord??? but did not find it overly obvious - I tend to wear boots or converse, with skinny jeans and you can't really see it under laces. I have found it stays in place all day, and does not require me to keep tightening shoe laces to hold it in place. I work full time and am on my feet most of the day, and find this so comfortable.I have been wearing this daily for approx 1 month, and it's still retaining shape and tension. With the foot up, I was finding I was dragging my leg by end of day, but haven't found this with Boxia.

Brilliant Boxia
I suffered a chain saw injury where my perennial nerve was severed resulting in a condition known as foot drop. I have tried several supports to help this condition but this appliance is second to none. I am now running, playing golf, going dancing and taking long walks in the country. The 'boxia' has changed my life. I hope the nerve will regrow but I am told this could take up to two years. However in the waiting period i am able to enjoy an active life style again.

Quality item
Requires physio assessment to see if appropriate for presenting condition and if able to donn independently, but tends to do well for mild ankle/footdrop issues with minimal high tone, as long as not too much weakness or muscle shortening higher up at knee/hip. Solidly made and withstands alot of use. Think latex might be present in elasticated areas? therefore be aware if any allergies.

Transforming
I have a semi drop foot as a result of a back injury. I am always tripping up as my foot doesn't lift well. This product is easy to fit, very inconspicuous under trousers and I think it is helping me improve my gait. Well worth paying the price.
