Fire danger!
This heat tape melted my $160 RV sewer hose over the winter and burned through its own insulation to the point that it melted and broke itself. This is a huge fire hazard and we are lucky to be alive.

poor quality product
This is a poor quality product: After crawling into the crawl space (difficult) & installing it was heating. When I crawled back 2 days later to check on it it wasn't heating. I then had to remove & return. This sucks! All this time & effort for nothing!

One flaw I would like to point out.
Having been in electronics for 30 years I wanted to check the heater before crawling under the house. The heater is well constructed and should last many years. There is one flaw I would like to point out. There is an indicator in the plug that tells you if power is getting to the unit. If the thermostat were to fail you would lose protection but the power plug would still light leaving you to believe you were protected when in fact you would be vulnerable to have your pipes freeze.. I stuck the thermostat into a cup of ice for 5 minutes while watching an ohmmeter and observed that my new unit was working.

Faulty after less than 90 days!
I installed this around January. I don't know when it tripped, but at least on 5/31/2018 this product popped the GFCI+breaker and upon resetting it blew smoke out of the outlet. I've left it unplugged for a couple of days and that circuit has been working as expected (with only the water softener). It did do its job during the January-March cold months where we hit 0*, pipes stopped freezing. It's disappointing this failed after one season.

Works as designed for my use
I bought two of these in different lengths to hopefully keep outside lengths of potable water hose from freezing. One hose runs from an outside hose bib on my house into a valve which feeds an underground PEX run. The other hose connects the PEX where it comes out of the ground into a travel trailer city water inlet. The travel trailer sees winter use so I wanted to keep the water flowing. I live in Fayetteville NC so bitter bouts of cold are not typical here but there are times when the outside temperature will not get above freezing for a few days.I attached this product to my hoses using a specialized heating cable application tape ( Easy Heat HCA 30-Foot by 1/2-Inch Cold Weather Valve and Pipe Heating Cable Application Tape ) which I bought here on Amazon. I then wrapped the hoses and heating cable with self sealing outdoor rated foam rubber insulation (like foam noodles that people use in pools but these are rated for outdoor pipe insulation). The plug ends of these cables have what I'm guessing is a small neon bulb that lights to indicate that the system has power applied. This is a useful benefit to visually verify that power is applied to the system. I find this feature very valuable, although I didn't think much of it when I was purchasing these items. The past couple of weeks have been exceptionally cold (for my location). Low temperatures at night have been below 20F and there have been a few days where the high temperature has not approached freezing. I have to say that these things work. The travel trailer had continuous flowing water through the hoses that are heated with this product. The travel trailer has a propane furnace that keeps the baseline temperature comfortable so the interior PEX plumbing is not an issue. For the outdoor supply lines though, these are working well.I have seen questions as to whether these products can be used with flexible hoses such as garden hoses instead of only being useful for copper, PVC, CPVC, etc. So far, the products have presented no problem with the application on the water hoses. As other reviews and questions mention, my hoses are always water filled.

Nice product. Perfect for my project.
Nice heavy cord, Very well constructed. This is a heated cord more than heat tape. I used router and sealed mine inside of a 2x4 with caulk. It's used as a perch for peacocks. They sit on the perch more now. The thermostat works great. Don't have to worry about plug-in and unplug. Board is cool during the day and warm at night. I'm very pleased with the product. The longevity is the only thing in question now.

Well Made But High Electrical Consumption for Long Lengths
This seems to be a well designed and well made heat tape, with thermostat at the end farthest from the plug and compact enough to make it easy to attach to the pipe and include inside the insulation (so it measures pipe, not air, temperature). The transparent plug includes an indicator light to let you know that there is power to the heat tape. The only downside is that, at 7 watts per foot, an 80 foot cable consumes 560 watts when in use.

so far, so good
I bought this heat tape to use in an unheated, but insulated, crawlspace because it can be overlapped on itself unlike some tapes that cannot. I only had a short length of plastic waterline exposed so even the shortest straight tape was too long. Attaching the cable to the waterline was straightforward using electrical tape to secure the element and thermostat. Quality of construction/materials is good and the instructions were clear except not clearly indicating where the thermostat is located. I can't comment on actual performance because despite some pretty cold outside temps (-2 F this morning) the crawlspace is still at 40 degrees so the tape, which turns on at 37 degrees, hasn't had any work yet. So 4 stars for as-advertised and easy-to-install. Will update and adjust up or down when it's had a chance to actually operate.

It did not work for me.
The product was used to melt ice inside a downspout but the heat generated was not enough to melt anything. During cold days, one barely feltl the warmth if touched it by hand.
