Q: Can a white color be achieved with them ?

It's not a "pure" white, but yes, you can do white by having all three colors go full bright. It might have some RGB tinting, however. If pure white is a key desire, you might want to look into the model "Adafruit NeoPixel Digital RGBW LED Strip - Black PCB 144 LED/m" instead - they are a four-channel system that sends Red, Blue, Green, and White values down the bus for each addressable node. NeoPixels and DotStars are code-compatible with each other, the major benefit to DotStars is that they have a faster clock for their data bus and can do "Persistence of Vision" displays more effectively due to the higher refresh rate. NeoPixels are an older, slower tech and are therefore somewhat cheaper, usually. The NeoPixel RGBW's have two models - a "warm white" and a "cool white", so shop carefully. Also realize that both DotStars and NeoPixels require a controller to do what they do - be it an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar. These are raw electronic parts.

Not with DotStar - I've yet to see a DotStar RGBW. For a four-channel controllable LED, you'll want to use NeoPixels instead. They are slower refresh rate, but only require one data pin instead of the two required by DotStars.

Sure, as long as you have something to control the LED strip, e.g. an Arduino, you can program it to turn on sequentially.

Q: Is it possible to break this strip into smaller lengths?

Yes, they an be broken up by cutting in-between two LEDs. You'll need to solder connections once the strips are cut

Super bright and loads of fun

The media could not be loaded. These are really bright. I wasn’t prepared for just quite how bright they are, even this short little strip. Controlling with Arduino uno, no problems.
