Excellent for the price. Fun little surprises
This is an excellent value for the money, so it's hard to go wrong even if you don't get the color you want or something. I bought these to take to a visit with my family, but I had a few extra so I've opened 3 already. Hoping for a black pearl, I chose the smallest ones based on another review -- they were white, white, and pink sadly, so all the small ones are NOT black, except maybe in certain batches or by coincidence. But the surprise is part of the fun I guess, if you MUST have a certain color, you should probably just buy it. Assuming these are random, and some colors are more common than others, who knows what you might get... you might get 10 white ones, so you have to be ok with that or else order specific colors. The pearls were of different sizes, which was good -- I tried popping one into one of the cage pendants I bought, and the pearl was too large (which is the fault of the pendant, not the pearl), but the other two fit. They're slightly oblong, but mostly round... I'm sure they're seeded, but they're not shaped like a grain of rice, more like an egg or rounder. As far as I could tell the pearls were in the meat of the oyster and didn't seem like they were placed in there. If you think about it, pearls have to be made in an oyster... it's a lot more work to grow them in and then harvest them from one oyster, and open that oyseter up, take the pearl out, open up another oytser and stick the pearl inside. That seems stupid. I can't comment on if some of these are dyed because I haven't found a black or purple one (realistically they probably are), but I didn't notice any color abnormalities in the pink one I found. It seemed natural to me, and even if it wasn't it'd probably fool the average person. These oysters are NOT like what you get in a restaurant (heavy and thick-shelled), they're about 1 - 2 inches in diameter and the shells are paper thin. Of course you're only deaing with the shell for a second and then you throw it out, but it does seem a little "cheap". I found the easiest way to open them was to snap them in half in my hands... I tried to pry one open and the shell shattered anyways. They do come in a little juice which is a little gross, but it's minimal and not terrible. It's not so much it spills out or anything. I will say that several of them came "cracked", which is not to say open, but just that the shell had been broken but was held together. You still get the surprise of opening it, but I'll be sure to give my family the unbroken ones.I think for the price it's important to have realistic expectations, and recognize what is and isn't acceptable. I think the for price these are a GREAT bargain. I hope there's a black pearl in here, but even if there's not it's still a good price for a fun little activity and 10 real pearls.

Freshwater Pearls
Would definitely recommend this. Bought on a whim for my wife thinking she might enjoy opening them. They arrived much sooner than expected and just as advertised. We received ten of the little guys (or gals), each packed in it's own sealed container. There was little to no smell, very little mess while opening. She had put on latex gloves for the opening ceremonies, which I would recommend because of the preservative fluid involved. She had a bit of trouble opening them at first, which I remedied by giving her a steak knife with the tip broken off (our "oyster knife), and after that the biggest thing I could see was her grin. When I told her that I was writing a review, she told me to be sure I included that she had a blast opening them and seeing her very own pearls for the first time. Had I known that she was going to enjoy it so much, I would've bought them for her a long time ago. Was fun watching her open them and having such a good time. Have included a picture. She got four peach colored ones, four white, one chocolate colored and finally one, a deep rose which is the one she liked the most. I was hoping she would get at least one black one, but maybe next time. Glad I indulged in this particular impulse buy. Wish they all worked out this well.

Sometimes life gives you pearls
The media could not be loaded. These are so much fun to open at home and bring back memories from past experiences of opening on vacation, I’ve only opened four so far all have been beautiful white, but I have a special one the shape of a bullet. It’s really cool to see the pearls coming in all shapes and sizes and hopefully I’ll find colors soon just like us humans. I couldn’t smell anything bad but I was nervous opening them.

Nice Pearls
Received 10 oysters individually packaged and in great condition. Tried opening with a knife like the video showed, but found it easier to just crack them open by bending. Side note, definitely do it outside with gloves and a handy garbage bag. The smell wasn't too bad, but lingers way longer than wanted. Thankfully only made that mistake with one oyster. However, imagine my surprise when I saw a bright green pearl after finally cracking open the oyster. I double checked the order description because I thought I ordered natural colors. I did. The next 8 pearls I can probably believe were natural colors (white, peach, and purple). Then the last popped out a bright neon blue.Overall, it was a fun mystery pearl hunt and worth the money paid. The pearls were a little smaller than pony beads, big enough for pearl charm cage necklaces. Just wish they were all natural colors.

Not what I expected, but fun for kids
Bought these to open with my nieces as a fun activity, based on the price I wasn't expecting much. At most I was assuming they'd just be very small seed pearls or just a thin nacre layer over a nucleus, something like that. They came packaged very well, they were in great condition and all sealed. Opening them up was easy enough, but I was a little disappointed to realize that none of these oysters actually seemed to have grown these pearls, given the fact that they were just loose inside the shells. I'm assuming they just open up the oysters, drop the "pearls" inside, then process them for shipping. Still, nieces had a blast, they loved the pearls they got, and there's worse ways to spend $15.
