This true fig plant, which is a relative of the edible fig, is a vigorous grower. Once established, it will grow quickly. Its dense branches and attractive foliage cling to almost any surface. Give it something to climb, such as a fence, pillar, arbor, or wall. Ficus pumilia is considered one of the best self-clinging vines. On the ground, it will spread indefinitely as a short, trailing ground cover. As a ground cover, it does especially well when planted under palms or clump-forming tropicals. It can also cascade over the edge of an elevated planter. Given the chance, this plant will climb objects 20' or more by aerial rootlets. The leaves begin as small, leathery, and dark green, but they will mature to be 2-4" long.
