This is a REALLY STURDY, beefy front deadbolt lock!
After having used a fully-electronic keypad-style front door lock for the last 4 years, I got tired of how the batteries had to be replaced constantly... but more importantly, how whenever you tried to use the touch pad to get in, it usually "failed", and kept you locked out... forcing you to use a regular key anyway.THIS unit, however, is entirely mechanical, so it eliminates that lousy failing keypad... plus, it still allows you to use a regular Kwikset house key, if you forgot the code.As far as installation goes, the only drawbacks are that it was a little tricky to move and replace the pins, to set the code I wanted... as well as the fact that it really only allows you to use up to 6 digits/characters safely. I say this because I wanted to input an 8-character code, but the unit is not set up to ONLY accept your code in the exact order you want it to be using... that is, if you program it for "14352890", ANY combination of those numbers (inputted in any order) will then open the lock... which is problematic. So, you really have to give it some thought as to what 4-to-6 digit/character code you might safely use. With all that said, however, this lock is really beefy, and so far, has eliminated the "pain" caused by my earlier electronic keyless lockset!

A try and true tech that stand the test of time
I am a techie guy and love smart home tech. Got this because tire of changing battery and troubleshooting my door lock like a computer. This is super well built (not sure if you could break it with a hammer), unlike some of the 200-300+ smart lock. Super simple to setup and always works. Love the compact lock/handle design.

Closest item to what I wanted/needed, had to modify it to get it to work, 9/10 happy.
Okay i've got alot to say; hopefully someone else finds this useful.Overview:• I really wanted this item to work for my application, so I modified the item to make it work. This may not work for everyone. However if you find yourself in my similar situation hopefully this is helpful.• I had to modify the length of the spindle to reach to the other side of the door and I had to buy longer bolts (more on that later).Problem:• I'm trying to install a deadbolt (for extra security) door knob (for ease of use) on my outside gate• I have a 2.75" thick gate door (much thicker than the 'standard door' size)• I want the color to match my gate (black)• I want something mechanical because the gate will be directly exposed to the elements (rain, snow, sun, ect)• I have a 2" - 2.5" circular door opening (standard size)Pros:• Only mechanical standard sized deadbolt and door handle on the market I can find• Only one in the color I needed - black• Fits a standard door size and circle cut out size• Fairly easy to install (although i've gone through like 4 of these trying to find the right one so maybe I just learned how to do it)• Code can be 4-6 digits (i don't want a 4 digit lock, takes too long)• Opening the door from the outside, then locking it from the inside DOES lock the door from the outside. (this is a BIG one, because the same model in silver/chrome DOES NOT do this)Cons• DOES NOT fit a door thickness of 2.25" or larger (The spindle does not reach the other side and the bolts to attach both ends together is too short)• DOES NOT have a nice door handle, instead has a turn knob (not the end of the world, but I really wanted a door handle on both sides)Pro Tips• If you also have a door whose thickness is more than 2.25" then you CAN create a longer spindle and buy longer bolts to reach.• The bolts that connect both sides of the handles to each other is M4 (metric 4). The bolts included are short (for standard applications) so I purchased 50mm, 60mm, and 80mm M4 bolts so that it could reach all the way to the other end for my thicker door. (ended up using the 60mm M4 ones)• The spindle extension... was... tricky... The deadbolt keypad spindle was jusssst a hair too short and didn't reach the other side of the inside lock. You have 3 options. (a) take it to a lock specialist and have them replace the existing spindle with a longer one (b) weld a piece of spindle to the end of it to make it longer (c) fashion a piece of wood dowel and insert it into the spindle.• I opted for option (c). I sanded down a wooden dowel so that one end would fit into the spindle and the other end would fit into the other side of the lock. It works. I don't know for how long... but for now, it works.I hope this was helpful for someone. In general, this is a great lock and should work for 95% of people... For the other 5% of people, I'm dinging one star because I called customer service but they don't sell a longer spindle, so I had to create one for myself. (See photos for application and spindle extension)

convoluted instructions
you have to save extra pieces in order to change the code.......there are 2 separate pieces that each have screws needed to be removed to change the code......all in all, I would never buy this againMy previous review was a little harsh- this one is more fair (1-26-24)After purchasing several various other deadbolts and returning them, I found that the similarities are widespread. They All had difficulties and this deadbolt was no worse than the others. In fact, the numbers are easier to read than most of the competition, but you'll still need a light in the dark. This lock itself feels sturdy and the main issue I have is the feel of the buttons. The buttons don't feel strong and don't send back a recognizable "click" when pressed.I'm changing my rating to 3 stars

Very Responsive Customer Service
The lock as received had no deadbolt action. It installed easy enough and appeared to work well until I realized I could manually depress the bolt back when it was fully extended. This is unacceptable for a deadbolt lock, making it susceptible to jimmying. I emailed customer support and we exchanged a little information and within about a week I had a replacement lock which functioned just fine. I highly recommend.

No more keys
I hate it when I have to leave the house and wait for wife to get dressed so I can lock the door. Now, I just leave the house, open my car and sit there for her to come out and she locks the door with this lock - no keys needed! Get it.

VERY NICE!
I was considering another mechanical lock but it was out of stock. Then I found this one and it is MUCH better. The other lock required drilling extra holes in the door while this lock fits into the large hole found on most doors. It works quite well and I am very pleased with it and highly recommend it. The only down side is that you have to take the lock slightly apart to change the combination but the lock its replacing did the same and I have no desire to change the combo.

Built like a tank and doesn't need batteries
I was really surprised by this combination lock. Built from cast stainless steel it appears to be of above average construction. I liked the first one so much I have since bought a second one and looking for where I can use more of these. Many electronic locks cost much more than this but I doubt any are built as bullet proof as this one.

An actual honest review
The media could not be loaded. Yes the lockpicking lawyer picked it in a heartbeat, but that is what he does as a professional lock picker. A professional could pick all locks in this price range as well as all the locks I currently have in my house. And yes the Zinc-alloy is a weaker metal than titanium, but so are glass windows! If someone wants in your house they will typically access the house via the fastest, easiest method. Why spend time and effort attracting a lot of attention trying to smash open a zinc alloy lock, when you could break a window in one hit?The fact is, this lock is as good as any other average lock at this price point. It is made with a solid metal body, that is easy to setup and install. I really like the keyless entry feature as I can give the access code to whomever I might need to, and if for any reason I no longer want them to have access I can simply reset the code, which may sound like a pain, but it is far cheaper and quicker than installing new locks. It took all of 20 minutes to setup and install. The instructions were easy to read and understand and once installed it is super easy to use. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Low security but still quite useful
I see this as a fairly low level security lock but it could still have some practical uses. It could be used on a gate or box that you want to use for your deliveries for instance- you just need to ensure that the drivers have the code. At first glance setting the code looks a bit of a bother as you have to remove the keypad and move some gold and silver pins around which sit behind the keys. However in practice this is extremely easy, takes only a few minutes and gives you an insight into how the whole keypad lock works works. There are a couple of pretty significant shortcomings here which are mentioned in the product information. One is the fact that you cannot repeat any numbers (or letters there is only A and B) and the other is that entry of the code can be done in any order. So if your code is 123456 then any combination of 123456 will work. This obviously greatly reduces the number of combinations to guess but is still a reasonable hurdle assuming anyone trying to break the code does not know the actual number of digits you have set via the pins.. You can override the combination by using the key(s) supplied. It does take a bit of fitting and it may well be that a decently secure hasp/staple and combination lock would serve a similar purpose. I wouldn't rely on this to give long term security access to anywhere that needs to be really secure but it does have practical uses at quite low cost. Good, clear fittings and usage instructions are supplied.

Good Solid Lock
The media could not be loaded. The lock arrived really well packaged with all the individual components laid out in the box.It is a good solid lock and feels very sturdy. The instructions are clear and fitting was straight forward - for my husband!

Secure and simple door lock
Upgrading home security, this keypad lock has been a practical addition. The ease of keyless entry is a major convenience, especially when hands are full. The mechanical nature ensures reliability, free from electronic failures. The sturdy build adds a sense of security. While it meets most needs, additional code options would enhance its functionality. It's a straightforward solution for everyday security.

Looks impressive but not very secure
As people with far more knowledge of locks have commented prior to me, this lock is not the solution if high security is your goal. I deliberately held off fitting this item until I could research it a little bit more and what I discovered was not encouraging. My original plan was to fit it to my shed but, if it does get used, it will now be as a low security option inside the house.
