Chock full of fascinating train facts and history. The pictures are very nice. My 8 year old rail fan loves it!

This book isn't just a picture book for kids, but it's also a very informative and educational book for adults as well covering the history of rail travel around the world. It includes fairly detailed explanations about the earliest steam engines in the 1700s to the dawn of railway travel in the early 1800s, all the way to the golden age of rail, to the advent of electrically powered engines, the diesel engine, and to the expanse and decline of railways across the globe to the modern age. It includes diagrams and explanations of how steam, electric, and diesel engines work, as well as maps showing routes of famous railway routes such as the Transcontinental Railroad of the US. It also includes timeline charts showing key dates and events. A worthy addition to any railroad enthusiast's collection as well as for kids and adults alike that enjoy trains in general.

Just get this book. I knew that DK produced excellent books, but this is just stellar. I thought that this was a children’s book, with solid, simple information. But what the heck. I got it thinking it would at least have cool pictures for reference for modeling, and some solid basic facts. But it’s not a kids’ book at all. It’s more like a museum in a book. It’s divided into sections like steam, the golden age, war and peace, etc. The photography and printing are beautiful, and there’s tons of dense information on every page. It feels like walking through galleries of a great railroad museum. If you or someone you know has even a passing interest in railroads, history, technology, design, etc., this is a must have. Also, in spite of it not being a “children’s book,“ there’s not a child out there who wouldn’t enjoy it. Even a toddler would love all the photos. Now I’m wondering about all the rest of their books. Yikes!

This is a great book fir anyone between 6 and 166.

This book is quite detailed. Lots of historical information inspite of the large amount of photographic content.

Bought this as a gift for my train-loving father in-law, who just turned 81. He loved it, said it was one of the best books on trains out there and believe me… he’d know.

This book is absolutely exceptional in terms of its historic content. Quality of the paper is very heavy, excellent quality finish to the pages and the print. It's heavy binding is very resilient, nothing bad to say. Absolutely wonderful. Will last for years for my nephew, thank you very much.

Bought this for my son who is a train enthusiast and he cannot put it down. Hard back cover. Excellent find.
